"Okay, Doc. Tell me again why we have to go to '51."
Doc exhaled sharply. "Eh! I already told you how important those notes are! That's the last
time I remember seeing them."
"So what? Why use 'em now? If they..."
Doc stared hard at Marty. "Don't you ever pay attention? l never thought I'd have a use for
them, but now that I've made some important discoveries they should be extremely helpful."
Marty sighed, kicking off his shoes. It would be a long time before he and Doc were out of
anyone's sight and able to leave the present unnoticed. Marty didn't feel like coming along
today, but Doc always insisted on travelling together for safety. "Two heads are better than
one!" he would say, but recently Marty hadn't felt very useful. Doc knew what needed to be
done and did it. Marty was almost in the way. He didn't want to come this time. It was a
warm spring day that would become quite cool by the time they returned, and Doc always
made sure to return to the time they would have been in had they never left, thereby not
risking disruption of the space-time continuum. Unfortunately, that meant no week-long trips
which Marty enjoyed. They gave him a chance to break the monotony of school.
"We're here!"
Marty was jolted out of his semi-unconciousness at the sound of Doc's voice. "Heh," was
his only response. That was quick, he thought.
"Type the destination time and coordinates in, Marty," Doc instructed, proceeding to check
over the Delorean. He wasn't going to take any risks.
Marty carelessly obeyed, saying each number aloud as he roughly punched them in.
"Done, Doc."
The numbers were double checked and the duo proceeded to take off.
