What Happens When The People In Charge Slack Off

Lieyan

The boys' tennis team of Seigaku stood looking at a girl dressed in a tennis jersey. A boy's tennis jersey. A regular's tennis jersey.

"What the hell?" Momo whispered to no one in particular.

Ryuuzaki Sumire, scratching her head perplexedly, looked at a piece of paper.

"Ah… apparently Yukihara Keiko-chan will be joining us in practice today……"

Crickets.

"Go ahead and welcome her……"

Keiko, looking very flustered, bowed stiffly. "N-nice to meet you."

The regulars also bowed, mumbling greetings.

"Um… Keiko-chan, you'll be warming up with Fuji Shuusuke."

Fuji smiled and waved.

Keiko's lips twitched as she tried to smile back, but she just looked even more confused and bowed again.

During their warmup rally, Fuji finally got to take in the girl's appearance. Yukihara Keiko was a pretty girl, with straight, dark hair, chocolate-brown eyes, a delicate face and a nice figure.

However, she was waving her racket around like a caveman and had not managed to return a single ball, as they either became subjected to rimshots or glanced off the racket face at odd angles he hadn't seen since Yuuta started learning to play tennis.

Sumire noticed this and paused the rally, motioning them both up to the net as she walked over.

Keiko jogged up, blushing furiously.

"What's wrong, Yukihara-san?"

"U-um, Ryuuzaki-sensei, I honestly have no idea why I'm here or how to use this," she waved the racket, "thing."

Sumire frowned, and checked the paper. "But your profile shows that you've won several international titles and that your team won the Nationals last year……"

"YES," Keiko screamed frustratedly. "IN VOLLEYBALL."

AN. I am not kidding, it took mental preparation to describe Keiko's eyes as "chocolate-brown", and it took a load of willpower not to backspace and just leave it at a non-Sueish "brown". It was hard.
