A/N: Whew…that was QUITE a long break. So, as per my return to fan fiction once again, I held a poll for just one week. The poll results told me that I had to write not one, not two, but three oneshots. --; So here's the first, the first part of a set of drabbles about my favorite Pokemon, Spheal. Yeah, I decided on it being a set because of the title.
Disclaimer: I do not own Pokemon, period. Except for this drabble. Period.
Time and Tide
Birth
I could scarcely remember the day I came to be in the world. What I could remember was the joyful tone of Emilia's words, "It's a Spheal! A baby Spheal!"
"Happy birthday, Emi."
"So what are you going to name it now that you're five years old?"
Emilia looked up at her brother and his friend before crouching down to look at me. When we were eye-to-eye with each other, she looked at me in a strange way as I returned it with confusion as to why she was looking at me like that before she said, "It's a boy Pokemon?"
I had no idea what she had meant but the human that was her older brother could only give me that strange look before chuckling. "Hahaha, it is a male Pokemon!"
To stop his laughing immediately, the female human jabbed at his gut with her elbow, stopping him just like that. "That's not funny, Roland!"
The human boy rubbed the spot where he was jabbed as I felt myself being lifted higher and higher by Emilia. She looked at me again, only not with that strange look but with happy one. "Aww, he's so cute!"
She brought me close to her chest and held me tightly. I would have liked the hug had I not been scared of the events that had just unfolded.
"H-Hey, Emi, don't crush it-"
"Him." she corrected with a dark look.
"Him now." her brother finished, looking sheepish as the girl next to him smiled as Emilia held me up and looked at me again with those eyes. Eyes full of happiness. I would rather wish that she would have let me down. I do not know if I had ever thoughts of being dropped but I was glad that my Trainer had some sense not to do so.
Otherwise, I would not be telling this tale right now.
"Hi, Spheal, I'm Emi. I'll be your friend from now on."
When she said that, I could believe her and know these words to be truth.
"Now that you're both familiar with each other, why don't we show Spheal around his new home?"
"That's a good idea, Tar. But isn't it," he started before yawning. "Isn't it already night? I don't think it'd be a good idea to have Emi show Spheal around the place while it's dark."
"Oh, afraid, Big Brother?"
Her brother looked at her suspiciously. "What makes you think that?"
The girl next to him pointed out the obvious. "Because, your legs are shaking. Are you going to tell us that you're still afraid of the dark?" she giggled.
"It's not funny!" he snapped, his face red from the accusation.
I thought it was? I could have thought I saw the boy's eyes catching my own when I thought that. He then looked away, his attention drawn away by that girl with him. I was glad that he was not a psychic.
"Anyways, I think we should wait until the sun comes up and it's not because I'm afraid of the dark!" he finished while the girl giggled at him.
"Yeah, I think Big Brother's right, Tari." Emilia replied before looking at me. "Don't worry, Spheal, I'll show you our home tomorrow. It'll be fun but we have to go to sleep first."
She picked me up into her arms and carried me off to her room.
I don't know much about what had happened just then but I knew that I was happy right at my birth.
A/N: Tell me what you think of it. I decided to try to finish and submit this for New Year's Day. That and it was part of my New Year's Resolution to always follow through with what I said I will do. So review and tell me what you think of this.
