This is a little one off I wrote, it came into my head so I wrote it down, I hope you like it.

Mel volunteered herself to be my beta. - yes, she also wrote that sentence.

I do not own the characters I'm just borrowing them, they in fact belong to Shonda and ABC :)

1 year old

The little baby girl was a beautiful baby, dark black, ebony hair already at a year old that was beginning to curl. She smiled a lot and liked to be held, but not too tight.

Her mother was awkward with her and she always seemed fussy when her mother held her, so her mother would become fed up and pass her to the nanny. Or her father.

The child loved her father; whenever he was near her face would light up and her arms would outreach to be held. He threw her in the air and tickled her till she was red with giggles.

Aged 2

The nanny held on to her and stroked her hair. Held her close and tried to shade the little girl from her parents' shouting and screaming. Plates were thrown, insults and doors were slammed; finally a door slammed, a car drove off and the house was quiet.

Aged 3

The little girl jumped up and down with excitement. Her daddy was taking her to the playground today for ice-cream and to the swings.

She stood there whilst her mother and father made polite conversation with each other. Her mother fussed over her clothes and tried to hug her, the little girl wiggled free desperate to see her father.

He didn't live there anymore so she hardly got to see him, but when she did she was excited and happy.

Aged 4

Her mother was getting remarried to a man who was a dentist, they were moving to Beverly Hills. Her nanny told her she would be rich and have anything she wanted.

She wanted her daddy. She couldn't understand why she couldn't live with him.

Her mother was awkward with her and was barely around, her nanny was the one who hugged her, read to her, loved her. Her mother would come to the nursery see her, never allowing her daughter to hug her unless her hands were clean so she couldn't mess up whatever designer clothes she had on.

Aged 6

She was starting her new school. Her daddy had taken her out and bought her a new lunch box, she was excited but scared.

The other children looked different but they were nice, some were spoilt and some were nice.

Aged 7

She hated school.

She found it hard to read and to concentrate on her work, and could never catch up with her friends in reading time. The teacher told her mom and dad she was being tested for dyslexia.

She asked her dad what this meant, he explained. He was always good at explaining things. He told her that he was he was dyslexic, too.

Aged 8

She loved school; she was diagnosed as dyslexic and given a teacher who helped her find her own way of learning. She was clever and smart she was catching up with her friends.

She loved to dance, she loved the colour red, she loved to eat ice cream in the playground with her best friends, she looked forward to her weekends with her daddy.

Aged 9

She doesn't smile anymore, she hates to dance and eat ice cream, she won't let anyone hug her, the colour red reminds her of her dad's blood all over the ground.

She doesn't smile and she doesn't hang out and play with her friends. In fact they aren't her friends anymore, they whisperer about her and snigger.

She is the girl whose father died. She is the girl who watched her dad bleed to death. She is the girl who felt her dad's heart stop beating. She sits alone in the playground, studying and reading.

She wants to be the best so one day she can tell her dad, wherever he is now, "I can fix hearts; I could save you if you were here to save."

Aged 30

She is Cristina Yang, she is a heart surgeon, she wins all the contests, she is the best and this is why she does what she does every day.
