Bay stared up into the eyes of the man that had broken her heart, someone could cut through the tension with a knife as she tried to keep breathing. His blue eyes were filled with love and sorrow, she could feel her own heart break a little at the fact that he was sad because of her. She reached up with her paint speckled hand and touched his cheek, tears that had gathered on the lower lids began to slide down the sides of her face into her hair and ears. She had no right to run to Emmett when Ty broke her heart, he would have been completely in the right to slam the door in her face when she had arrived, but he knew she needed him and it gave him hope that more might come later.
Their current state, laying on the floor in her studio with paper and paint scattered around them as the beat of her music vibrated up through the concrete into his palms and knees, had been the result of him startling her during her work. He had no idea that she couldn't hear over the music and it gave her a chance to experience being deaf, which he assumed was the point. Pictures of them on Ripley were beside her head on the floor and he glanced up at them for a moment before back to the woman. New Years was in three days and he wanted more than anything to cross that hurtle with her as his girlfriend.
He felt her hand touch his face and he watched silently as tears began to run down the sides of her face. How long had he been hovering there watching her? He leaned down and kissed her, tasting her for the first time since the night at his house after Ty had broken her heart. It seemed like eons ago that he had run his fingers into her thick black hair and held her close as he explored her mouth. he felt the vibration in her as she moaned for his touch, her own hands slid into his hair and tangled there to keep him in place, encouraging more pressure to their lip lock.
He leaned away, looking into her large brown eyes and feeling his heart stop. God he loved her. More than anything in the whole world he loved the crazy hyper woman who had sacrificed her time to help him, and who had run to him when she was hurt so deeply. Her hands were moving and he leaned away so she could sign more easily.
"I think, we should talk." He waved for her to continue as they both sat on the floor, her Indian style and he on his knees. "I..." She paused to look down at herself. "I'm pregnant."
"Is it..." He froze, he wanted more than anything for it to be theirs, that they could be connected forever with the life growing inside her. Emmett paused in his thoughts, he knew she was getting bigger the past few months and he could see now that her hips were wider than they had been before Christmas. She no longer wore tight clothing and he figured she had yet to tell her parents about this. But the fear that it might not be his kept him from continuing the question aloud.
"I think it's yours, because we didn't stop to use protection and Ty and I always did." She wiped tears off her cheeks and tried not to look directly at him waiting for him to process.
"I love you." He finally signed. He leaned forward and turned her face to his so he could kiss her again. "And if this baby is mine or someone or his I will always be here for you, helping you and loving you." Bay smiled, her tears continuing to fall as she wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled herself up to his chest. He would always love her and protect her, and this baby too.
