Full summary: Regulus Black was just another Black, right? No, Regulus was confused and, though he didn't show it, jealous. A little one-shot about Regulus' thoughts on Sirius being in Gryffindor and his jealousy of James Potter.
A jealousy like no other
Regulus Arcturus Black was super excited. No, it wasn't because he was going to Hogwarts. Nope it was the person coming from it. Regulus loved his older brother, despite his parents calling him a disappointment.
He didn't even care that Sirius was in Gryffindor. Regulus had sort of guessed that he wouldn't be in Slytherin. No, he was much too reckless.
They had been quite close before Sirius had left for Hogwarts, and now it was Christmas, he would be coming home and everything would be just like it was.
When their father, Orion Black, went to the platform 9 and ¾, Regulus went up to his room. He sat on his bed and gripped the mattress tightly. Truth be told, he had missed his older brother. While it was too quiet, Regulus felt quite ….. lonely. He and his brother did everything together. Sometimes, Regulus would join in with Sirius's pranks, though no one would ever find out.
After ten minutes, Regulus heard the front door creak. He beamed but masked it as he went downstairs. There was his father and his older brother, grinning like a mad man.
"Hey Regulus" Sirius said. Regulus frowned. His brother usually called him Reggie or Reggo. Maybe it's because father's there thought Regulus. That was probably it, so he dismissed it.
Marauders 5th year
Regulus had found it wasn't just because their father was around. It was because Sirius had a new best friend, James Potter. They were always getting up to mischief; they did everything Regulus and Sirius used to do.
Regulus knew he was not going to get into Gryffindor, like his brother, but hoped at least he would be alright in Ravenclaw or Slytherin.
Well his sorting went well, until the hat wanted to put him in Hufflepuff. From he had heard from Sirius, Hufflepuff's were a lot of duffers.
So he asked to be in another house. In the end, he was placed in Slytherin. As Regulus went down, he was careful not to look at Sirius, but heard them whooping.
Now was in his fourth year, and was ignoring the one that had played such a role in his childhood. He enjoyed being in Severus' and Lucius' company but would have liked to be with his brother. He liked being a seeker on Slytherin, but hated it when he had to play Gryffindor. He missed Sirius, but Sirius didn't care.
Now, Regulus was spending more time with the Black's house elf, Kreacher. Kreacher listened and gave him advice about what he could or should do.
Regulus liked Kreacher, but he just wasn't Sirius.
And, as he was dragged under the water by inferi, it still hurt that he hadn't had the chance to say goodbye to his older brother, or to tell him that he was helping him defeat Voldemort.
But his rejection still stung

A/N: I came up with this when I was re-reading the deathly Hallows. It was once I'd finished Kreacher's tale and thought, I wonder what Regulus thinks about James, hence this.
