A/N: Never done one of these before. Inspired by many things, which I won't bore you with here. If you really want to know, send me a message, or leave a review.
Many thanks to MagentaQuinn, who beta read this for me, and who has been generally brilliant, especially when I need someone to complain to. I cannot thank her enough.
Enjoy!
Chapter 1
'No matter what happens, I know you'll be brilliant.' His father's words echo around Vince's head as he walks slowly into the small room, breathing deeply. The examiner directs him to a desk with a lengthy paper sitting on it and tells him he may begin. Vince takes up the pencil and taps it against his chin, scrutinising the questions.
'A radio wave of wavelength 5 x 103 m travels through a vacuum at 3 x 108 m/s. Calculate the frequency of this wave.'
'Distinguish between 'line' and 'staff' relationships within an organization.'
'Explain the main cause of atmospheric circulation.'
He checks and re-checks every one of his answers at least ten times before finally closing the booklet, sitting back in his chair, watching the final seconds tick by.
A bell rings, indicating the end of the test. Vince places the paper into the examiners hands, his own shaking, and walks out of the building. He breathes deeply, suddenly realising how clouded his head feels. Shrugging on his jacket, he begins walking to his bus stop, thankful for the warmth provided by the rarely-seen sun. His mind goes back to the entrance exam. He won't pass, he thinks, because he can't allow himself to imagine otherwise. Deep down, a small voice says that maybe, just maybe, there's a chance that he did it, he passed. He drowns the voice out because if he dares to hope and then fails, it'll crush him.
