A/N: Ok, this takes a bit of explanation. This is a one shot linked to my other story "A Companionable Diary" with the same characters of the Tenth Doctor and his companion post Rose, Ella Marlowe, I'm sort of ignoring Martha, sorry. You don't have to read that to understand this really, that's written as a diary as well and this isn't. I just wanted to take a little break from the main story and this is it!
As the title indicates this is just the Doctor and Ella taking a little bit of a break from their day to day adventures. I hope you like it!
I don't own Doctor Who or anything.
Breathing Space
Bubbles rose to the surface, breaking the smooth glass of the pool. A slight ripple moved away from where a toe briefly poled out. Looking down a young woman could be seen floating in the water, her arms outstretched and her long, dark hair spread around her head in waves.
She wore only a black bikini, with hot pink strings and a sprinkling of coloured flowers. It was surprising that she had had the chance to get this prepared.
The water was warm enough for her not to feel the need to seek the surface and cool enough to refresh her after the long walk on the hot day. Though it had been more of a stroll than a walk.
As her eyes opened she could see the sun sparkling through the water and she smiled, letting the last of her air escape her lips as she rose to the surface.
She returned to the real world of air and trees and the form of her body subtly changed with her leaving the distortion of the water.
This was lost on her companion, lying as he was with his ankles crossed, his hands behind his head and his eyes peacefully closed.
She walked from the pool onto a sloping lawn of lush green grass. Scooping up her fluffy towel and wrapping it around her, she sat next to the man on the springy turf.
With so much to occupy her gaze her eyes remained open and sparkled with delight. The tall, dark trees casting shade over her and the weeping willow drooping into the pool. Silence but for bird song and the occasional rustling of leaves. She breathed deeply and caught the scent of many wild flowers she didn't know the names of.
Her damp hair hung down her back and was already beginning to spiral into its natural curls. A slight whispering breeze dried and cooled her skin.
When a movement beside her indicate that her companion had just sat up she spoke, without turning.
"Doctor, this is beautiful."
He turned to her with a smile of agreement and she met his gaze and held it for a moment, their eyes saying all that was needed and speaking of past memories, grief and happiness.
They turned back to the paradise they had found, small smiles playing on their lips, eager to memorise every detail while it lasted.
A/N: there you are, I hope you liked it, it's a bit different for me so please let me know what you think. Also, if you did like it you might want to check out the story it's linked to, "A Companionable Diary" which is a bit different but same characters and stuff so you know.
