"Can I look now?"
I clutched my arms around Jasper's broad shoulders and rested my head on his shoulders, savoring his sweet scent. Curiosity flooded me, but I resisted the urge to peek into the future to see what he had planned for us. I had promised him- tonight would be a surprise.
He set me down gently. The damp grass tickled my feet. His thumb grazed my cheek as he moved to remove the silky blindfold. I shivered at his electrifying touch.
He pressed a soft kiss to my cheek before letting the blindfold slip to the ground. I gasped involuntarily as I caught sight of the meadow in front of me. Candles lined the edges of the meadow. Their flickering flames danced across the meadow, casting a breathtaking aura around us.
"It's amazing," I whispered.
Jasper's face broke out into a breathtaking smile. He reached out and took my hand, intertwining his fingers with mine. As my body melded closer to his, he murmured, "May I have this dance?"
I nodded, wordlessly and followed his lead as we waltzed around the clearing. There was no music, but this moment was perfect. We moved together, and in that moment we were one. Nothing else mattered.
It was over all too soon as Jasper pulled away slowly. I opened my mouth to protest, but stopped when I saw him kneeling. He held a tiny, black, velvet box in his hand. If I was still human, my heart would have stopped beating at that moment. His eyes rose to meet mine, smoldering with such an intensity that I felt myself unable to look away.
When he spoke, his voice was soft. "Alice," he murmured, "When I first was turned by Maria, I thought I had been cast into eternal damnation. I wandered for decades, alone. That night in the diner when I met you changed my life- I felt hope for the first time in a century. You gave me a reason to live, a reason to laugh, a reason to love." He seemed to falter for a moment, "You're amazing and I don't deserve you. Someday I hope I can be good enough for you." I opened my mouth to protest but he cut me off. "What I'm trying to say is I want to spend forever with you. Will you marry me?"
If I could cry, I'd be bawling right now. It took me a moment to find my voice, "Yes."
The single word caused his face to light up brilliantly. He looked more beautiful in that moment then ever before. He swiftly opened the box and slid the ring within onto my finger.
It fit perfectly. I held it up to the light to admire its beauty. It was gold, with a single jewel. The diamond glittered brilliantly in the candle light. "It's beautiful," I whispered.
"You're beautiful." He encircled his arms around me and lifted me up so we were eye-to-eye. "I love you so much."
"I love you more," I murmured.
"Liar," he grinned.
I started to protest, but suddenly my mouth was otherwise occupied. When we broke apart, he was still holding me, his love enveloping us in a warm blanket. As I shifted even closer to him, I couldn't keep from smiling. Because in that moment, I was happier than I ever had been before.
Review, review, review!!! Do you think I should do this for another Twilight couple?
