It started with a bite..

Chapter 1

I lit a cigarette and strolled into the squad room, taking a seat at the back and trying to keep my head low. The local PD sergeant stood up after seeing me smoking. "All right you dirty government hot head! Put that shit out or I'll send you back to DC!" I smiled and snuffed it in my palm. "You know Sergeant, I'm just as happy to be here as you are!" I leaned back and thought about Missy back in the capital waiting for this bull shit punishment assignment to end. Three months in this tiny one horse town.

The sergeant walked over and slammed his hand down on the table in front of me. "Hey G-man! You listening?" I looked up. "Bar fights are on the rise. Billy bob hit his wife because she talked bad about Dale Earnhardt senior, and some teenager got grazed by some shotgun because he ran his pick up through a corn field right?" I stood up and walked out to my beamer, calling the Chief back in DC. "You have to get me out of here. These wanna be cowboys wouldn't know what real crime was if Al Capone lived in the Mayor's office." He laughed as I lit another cigarette due to not being able to finish the first one. "Boy, you may be one of the greatest tactical operators I've ever met. But you need to back it down some. You think you're real hot shit. It's quiet there, relax, take a load off. You're being paid to just sit back and enjoy the easy stuff for a little bit. HOLY SHIT!" He went quiet as the security sirens began to blair. "I have to go. Report back in a week."

After the line went dead I sat there for a moment, slowly sucking down my cigarette and thinking to myself, 'Stuck in Waco Texas while the security alarms were blaring back in DC. I opened the laptop I kept in the car mount and opened the secure link back to the home office, checking in on what exactly was happening. The radio lines were going nuts and an electronic order had gone out to get into the armory and load up. My phone rang, a restricted number. "Hello?" I said. "This is an executive order from POTUS, lock down the capital now!" I sat my phone down and lit another cigarette and walked back into the Waco PD, finding the Sergeant. "Sarge, DC just got locked down."

He looked at me, "What are you on about G man?" I pulled him around the corner and stared him straight in the eye before playing the message for him. "Something has gone so wrong that the president has locked down the Capital." He looked at me scared as hell. "Well you're the government expert, what should we do?" I lit another cigarette and thought about it. "Don't tell anybody. Let me find out exactly what's going on before we start loading up or making any plans. Just go about your business for now but let me have the conference room."

I walked out to my beamer and got my bag. Laptop, vest, rifle, all my communication gear. I laid it all out on the table and got to work. Refreshing the active orders in the DC office every ten seconds. They remained the same for about an hour before the system went completely offline. I stood up and yelled. "One of the greatest inter-agency communication networks in the world and it went offline!?" I lit a cigarette and pulled out my phone and tried calling my handler.

"All public communication in and out of Washington DC is currently being blocked to keep the lines open for government officials."
