AN/ Just a thought I had while in the throws of a terrible cold that may or may not be the flu.
Anyway.
Hope you enjoy the morbidness to come!
Most everyone in Middle-earth knows that Elves are immune to sickness. You could say that humans are ever grateful for the Elves' help in times of sickness for the Elves know how to better treat illness and infected wounds as they have their magic, but allow me to propose something to you.
Suppose that Men and Dwarves didn't want the Elves around for a completely different reason other than their infuriating, ethereal perfection? This other reason would be quite detrimental to the health of all mortal creatures who came in contact with the immortal beings. For if the Elves are truly immune to disease, they would not be eradicators of it. They would be the carriers; the transmitters.
The Elves would be nothing more than the mosquito that spreads malaria; except, the diseases they would carry would be far more dangerous that this. Leprosy, the Plague, Hepatitis B, Shingles, Smallpox, Tuberculosis, and Diphtheria are only a few diseases that Elves might have been carrying around.
I do not believe they would infect a person on purpose; in fact, they may often infect people by accident, completely naive to the fear that they are accumulating because of it. That people are not afraid of what the Elves do or say, but are frightened of what things they carry with them.
