They were just sitting on the couch. That's it. Sitting on the couch, watching a rom-com. Karkat was smiling and blinking away tears at the end of Titanic. He was angry at Rose because there was surely enough room for the both of them on that plank.

Gamzee was smiling because his new-ish boyfriend, whom he had had a crush on for years, looked exceptionally cute in an oversized sweater and red jeans. The soft, gray light from the TV flickering over him made his gentle features visible and Gamzee stared happily.

Karkat rubbed his eyes with the ends of his sleeves as the credits rolled and he looked over at Gamzee, who was looking at him with a soft, tired smile. Karkat blushed and his shoulders had a mind of their own as they hunched inward. He looked away quickly. Gamzee was staring at him? What even was there to look at?

Gamzee chuckled and scooted closer to Karkat. The little guy was embarrassed. It just made him more adorable.

Karkat looked back over at Gamzee who had moved closer to him. The room was dark but he could see Gamzee's face and he was proud of himself for scoring such a good-looking man. Even the girls in his group said he was nice to look at.

The shorter man's eyes darted down to Gamzee's lips and his face flushed harder. They had been boyfriends for a month after years of wanting to confess, and yet they still had not kissed. There had been plenty of cheek and nose kisses, but never lip contact. It seemed weird to Karkat, he being the romanticism-obsessed fuck he was.

Gamzee noticed himself moving closer just as it was happening. Shit, even when he wasn't thinking about it he was trying to give affection to Karkat.

Karkat leaned forward slowly, his eyes meeting Gamzee's but then retreating back to his lips, too nervous to make eye contact.

Gamzee smiled and finally destroyed the distance between them with a kiss, soft and gentle, cautious. His eyes closed and his breath ceased.

Karkat's heart was the gold medal winner of the cardiac olympics. He closed his eyes, absorbing the moment. It seemed to last longer that reality would allow.

Gamzee pulled away and slowly opened his eyes, smiling brightly at Karkat who was breathing quickly and blushing. He couldn't tell if that was a good or a bad thing.

"Uh, s-sorry Karbro, I didn't meant to-"

"N-no Gamzee, i-it's... It's fine. That was actually..."

Karkat didn't continue.

"Actually what?" Gamzee asked after a few seconds. Karkat looked up and said nothing.

Instead he leaned forward and kissed Gamzee again, only a bit less carefully. He made it last just a bit longer and when he pulled away he smiled.

"Fucking finally," he said, smiling lightly. He lay down on Gamzee's lap.

Gamzee laughed and stroked Karkat's short hair, turning the TV off.

"We sleepin' out here on the couch tonight, then?" He asked, yawning.

Karkat shifted, getting comfortable on his lover and closing his eyes.

"Yeah, sure."
