A/N: This is my attempt to resolve some of the sketchy (and contradictory) aspects of Jeannie's backstory. This is my own interpretation.
Do Not Envy Me
Do not envy me, my son.
I have paid a price for my powers … a steep price.
Powerful as I am, I am a slave to my bottle (Whoever owns my bottle … owns ME. Your father will be the first to tell you that.)
When I see you, I see myself at your age: a genie without powers.
Growing up, I was like you (My father was a mortal, my mother was a genie.) I know full well how it feels to be the plaything of everyone around you (I, a seeming "half-blood" and "defective" genie, was looked upon as an embarrassment to my family. It was the reason my mother sought to marry me off to the Blue Djinn: marrying me off to someone as powerful and influential as him would have been seen as restoring honor to our family. I do not need to tell you of the disastrous consequences that followed.)
I wish to give you what the Blue Djinn took away from me: the power to choose your own fate.
I love you and I would fight to the death to protect you, just as you are.
