My Fire
"Then, even if I knew my body would be burned by a raging fire…I would be just like them…and fly without hesitation, into the flames."
Maya felt a thumping in her heart as she lolled her head to the side, glancing at Mitsuomi out of the corner of her eye. He was young, kind, and a respected member of Takayanagi family, and yet she couldn't look at him the same way she looked at her brother. That bothered her. Mitsuomi rolled his head into his palm, trying to keep himself from staring in awe at her beauty.
"Is there something bothering you?" Mitsuomi asked with concern etching his face, his brows knitting slightly. He was too nice.
"I was just thinking," she made up a silent excuse, "that I need to go back home for tonight, I mean who knows…Shin might actually be worried about me."
She chuckled a little; she loved to make Shin worry. Mitsuomi grabbed her hand delicately like it was glass.
"Please, Maya," he whispered, holding her hand to his face, "don't go."
Her heart jumped and on instinct she snapped his hand away and ran out the door. He paused and watched her.
"More than a brother and sister, they seem like," Mitsuomi paused as quoted what Kazunoha Mana-sempai had said that night, " like they're deeply in love with each other … like lovers."
His body sunk into his seat.
"Lovers."
"Then…my wings would be seared off…and I would come crashing to Earth…covered in mud."
Maya gasps as she could still feel Mitsuomi's hand encasing hers tenderly. He was such a fool to fall in love with her! She continued on running until she hit a moving object, thrusting her backwards. She was about to say "sorry", but than she recognized who she ran into.
"But even if I got so dirty I didn't recognize myself … I know … I would find my way back to the middle of the fire."
It was Shin! She stood up quickly, embarrassed, a rapid blush filling in her pallid cheeks. He laughed softly.
"Of all the people to run into," his voice coaxed like silk, " I always seem to run into you."
"Brother," she responded," I just wanted to remind you of the moths and the fire, I didn't want you to forget."
He leaned forward with a half smile and a single crimson eye that seemed to embrace her in warmth. She felt her stomach lurch with butterflies.
"Did you honestly think I had forgotten?" his said, the half smile blooming fully on his face like a magnificent flower, he opened his left hand to reveal a burnt moth still wriggling in his hand. Her bright brown eyes were enlightened with a sort awe that almost made her want to cry out in happiness.
"It's trying to find it's way back to the flame, but, Maya, don't you see," Shin murmured, releasing the struggling creature, "I've already found my flame and even when I lose it, I always seem to find it again."
She melted into his arms so easily. It was the perfect fit. She could fell his muscular arms wrap around her protectively. He noticed that when she had fell down she had hurt her knee. Shin swept her off of her feet. Her head leaned against his chest, her violet strands crunching tightly against him, hearing the silent thumps of his heart. Maya's hand gently squeezed his loose shirt and she pretended to be angered by biting her lip.
"Don't help me again, okay?"
"For me, you're the fire…Maya."
That was the day she realized that she was in love with her brother.
A/N: My first anime fanfiction. I'm sorry that it was so short. My next Tenjho Tenge fic will be longer. This is a one-short so don't ask me to continue it.
