Hermione: The Beginning- chapter 1
A/N- this is a little story that has been sitting on my hard drive for a while. I wrote this first chapter a while ago and then got writer's block on what to do next, so any ideas are helpful. This is not the main story I am working on, so updates will be sporadic. Hope you enjoy and don't forget to review!
Hermione Jane Granger was born on September 19, 1979 to Ellen and Prince Granger. She was a beautiful baby girl and her parents loved her immensely. From the day they brought her home, but little did they know just how special she really was.
"Come on honey, say Mama," exclaimed Ellen to her six-month-old daughter. Even though she was to young to talk, she might catch on faster if it was constantly repeated. It was a slight competition between her and her husband to see if Hermione would say Mama or Dada first. The only prize was treating the winner to dinner, so it wasn't that big of a deal, but it was fun.
Ellen was turning around to finish dinner when she heard Hermione mutter, "Maaa-maaaa." Ellen quickly turned around to face her daughter.
"What did you say Hermione?"
"Mama," repeated Hermione, a huge grin breaking out on her face. "Mama, Mama, Mama."
By this time Ellen was hyperventilating. As soon as she recovered she grabbed the phone and dialed her husband at the office. "HA! I win!"
"Umm…. Honey, what are you talking about?" asked a very confused Prince.
"Hermione TALKED! She said Mama! You so owe me dinner."
"Ellen listen to me," replied Prince calmly. "Hermione can't talk. She's only six months old. You were probably just imagining things."
"No, I'm sure she talked. Here, hold on a second."
Prince heard a click as his wife turned on the speakerphone and put the hand set down. Then he heard his wife again.
"Come on Hermione, say Mama again so Daddy can hear you."
Then, to his great amazement, he heard Hermione clearly say, "Mama."
"Good girl Hermione. See Prince, I told you so."
But all Ellen heard was a clunk. She sighed, hopefully that was the phone being dropped, not him fainting, again.
A few days later they took Hermione to a doctor to see if something was wrong with her. The doctor checked her out and pronounced that she was fine.
"She just talked unusually early. It's nothing to worry about. I promise," the doctor reassured them. They believed the doctor, but that was only the beginning of many special things that Hermione did. The next occurring at her first birthday.
