A/N
I'd like to thank KoalaSnow, Sucha-Viet-Ox, and Maerchen Freunde. These people here have reviewed a great number of my stories and I want to just thank them all. It really does make my day. Also, even though I didn't put the names of all those who have, I want to thank all that have and will review and favourite them.
Shikamaru gazed outside the window, but without focusing on anything at all. He seemed to be so out of it lately. Their usual trading of insults had come to a halt for a while now, and even the others had noticed that Shikamaru seemed even more out of it then usual.
Temari was beginning to worry. He had barely even touched the food he ordered and there was almost no conversation between them.
"Shikamaru?" She said, breaking the silence between them. He didn't respond.
"Shikamaru." She said, with a little more force in her tone. It was enough to snap him out of whatever trance he was in.
"Hmm?," he looked away from the window realising Temari was asking for something. "Oh. Sorry Temari. Guess I was a little distracted."
"Just a bit," she said sarcastically. She notice he seemed to have his head in the clouds once again. "Shikamaru!"
He flinched in response to her shouting. So did the few others seated around them. "Sorry," he mumbled.
"How about a walk, Shikamaru? You look as if you need it."
He sighed. "Yeah, okay.
As they walked through the streets of Konoha they arrived at the lake near the training grounds. They found a spot next to it and sat down. Shikamaru found himself looking into the water, but at the same time not focusing on anything at all.
Temari noticed this too.
"Shikamaru?" She had been saying that a lot lately. "Is there something wrong? You've been very lost in thought lately, and I, along with everyone else, am worried about you."
He didn't respond for a long time.
Temari was about to ask him again when he finally spoke up.
"Ever felt like you were missing something, but you don't know what?"
Temari looked at him curiously. What was he trying to say? "Well sometimes before I go out on a mission I feel as if I'm missing something vital, like weapons or scrolls, or –"
"No," Shikamaru interrupted. "I don't mean tools and objects."
She was confused. "Then what are you talking about?"
Once again he fell into silence. This time though, Temari decided to wait.
"As in," he began. "You feel incomplete. Like you've lost a part of you. Or..."
She stared at him. "Or what?"
"Or you lack something you never had."
"Okay then," she replied. "What exactly are you missing, or what are you lacking?"
"Something that I feel is important to me, yet it's something I don't actually have, nor have I ever had it. It's something that I want, but the risk of trying to get is too high and the consequences of it going wrong is a high price to pay. What I'm missing is something that though is so close, is something I never had."
She looked at him with not worried eyes, but curious ones. "And what is it that you're missing?"
He looked at her uneasily. "It's you."
The awkward silence between them formed, but was shortly taken away when she gave him a kiss. She then held him.
Stunned, Shikamaru took a moment before holding her back.
"Well don't worry," she said softly. "What you're missing, what you're lacking from inside you. It's with you now."
End.
