It had been a few months after the calamity ended, and Mei had only one friend, Kouichi. He had formed a very strong bond with the remote girl with two different colored eyes. It was almost winter, cold, but not enough for the rain that was drizzling around town to freeze or become snow. She was enjoying the rain that gently pelted her skin, tingling with every drop that splashed against her, it always was relaxing to feel the tranquility of the rain when it was like this. Kouichi had convinced her to remove her eye patch, and although she occasionally was disturbed by both some passersby mocking her, and a rare glimpse of people with the color of death on them, she was happy that she listened to him; she felt as if she was special to Kouichi, as he loved to talk with her, and seemingly he liked to stare into her eyes.
"This rain brings a serene feeling, right Mei?" Kouichi asked as he put a hand on her shoulder, which startled her, and was relaxed to see her crush behind her. Kouichi had hoped he could spend as much time with Mei as possible, as over time he grew a large crush on the remote girl, not knowing that she too had feelings for him."I'm happy you remembered, Kouichi, I think that's another possible reason why I have romantic feelings for you." Mei accidentally had mentioned her true feelings for Kouichi, and immediately attempted to hide her face, blushing madly. "Y-You have a crush on me? N-no way..." he replied in a startled tone, "I thought that it wasn't a mutual feeling, Mei". "Are you saying you have romantic feelings towards me, Kouichi? I would have never thought you'd be interested in a girl like me."
Mei grabbed Kouichi's hand that he had earlier placed on her shoulder, and held it ever so softly, interlocking her fingers with his. he then felt weight pressing on his shoulder, and saw Mei leaning against him, eyes closed, with something that was a rare sight with Mei: a smile. Her smile was so soft and tender, He was happy that they had basically became a couple, without all the stress of asking each other out. "Mei, why would I not be interested in such a beautiful girl with a personality like yours? I think you might actually my perfect match, Mei." Kouichi had responded relaxed, and with a sigh of happiness, closed his eyes and leaned back on his girlfriend.
"I always hoped for this moment, Kouichi. I never expected my fantasy to become reality. You always wanted to talk with me even though I was an outcast. I thought you only wanted to figure me out, not ever become my friend, and much less become my boyfriend." Mei had remarked, in a serene warmth that spread though her entire body. They headed inside as the rain had changed from a light shower to a downpour. Mei's mother was never present at home, always out doing this or that. They were pretty dry, and had taken a seat on the couch, looking out the window together and listening to the rain beat against the glass of the window. Mei had grabbed a blanket, and wrapped it around herself and Kouichi, bringing the two closer together, both enjoying the warm embrace of the other.
'I'm glad we met, Kouichi. Thank you for getting close to me even when I tried to keep you away." Mei had become close enough to him that recently she addressed him by his first name instead of what most people addressed him as, Sakakibara. "I am too, Mei. I knew this day would come, sometime." Kouichi replied, as Mei drifted off into sleep beside him, and he held her beautiful figure for a while, caressing his solitary angel. "Thank you Mei..." Kouichi said, and he slipped into slumber holding Mei as the rain softly pelted against the windows.
