They meet at, of all places, therapy.

She's there to talk about how she feels about her sister getting into drugs and going to rehab. He's there to talk about his previous self-harm issues. They're sitting on opposite sides of the lobby, waiting for their respective appointments.

He's sitting on his side reading a comic book, while she listens to music on her end. The two teens are practically oblivious to the other's presence.

All Maya can think is that she really doesn't want to be there. She doesn't want to go and talk about Katie and the drugs and herself and her family with a complete stranger. She wishes her parents weren't making her do this.

Adam, for his part, doesn't mind being in the office. He knows it helps him with all his thoughts about Gracie and the transition and his self-harm. But sometimes he wishes he was normal enough to not need it.

He looks up from his comic book and sees the blonde Grade Nine girl. He recognizes her as Maya Matlin, Katie's little sister. He wonders why she's here.

She feels someone's eyes on her and looks up to see the blue eyes of Adam Torres, Katie's boyfriend's brother. They look at each other before Adam gives her a small wave. A small smile appears on her face as she gives a small wave back.

A moment later, her therapist walks in, and she gets led into her room. All thoughts of the Torres boy get pushed aside as she remembers that she doesn't want to talk. She hopes the session goes fast.

The following week, in the waiting room, Maya sits so that there's only a chair between them. She doesn't know what makes her do it. Doesn't know what surge of confidence tells her to sit there. But she does.

Adam looks at her, surprised, but gives her a small smile and a soft "Hey."

She smiles shyly and replies, "Hi."

Adam looks back down at his comic and Maya goes back to her music. They don't talk anymore, but they do exchange a few shy glances between the two of them until he's called back, leaving her to wait on her own.

"How long have you been coming here?" Maya asks after having five or six of her own sessions. She's curious about the older boy for some reason.

Adam shrugs. "On and off since Grade Nine. It helps." He says, looking at her with his blue eyes. Maya lets out a snort at this without really meaning to. He looks at her, quizzically. "You don't think so?" He asks.

She shakes her head. "I don't like talking to strangers about myself. It doesn't help. Besides, I don't have anything to talk about anyways."

"I thought that when I first started coming here. It gets easier, I promise." Adam says, hesitantly putting his hand over hers.

Maya looks down at their hands and feels her face start to get hot. A moment later, her therapist is there, calling her back. She says goodbye to Adam and reluctantly goes back to her therapist.

They're sitting in the waiting room they've both become accustomed to being in. They're sitting in their chairs listening to Dead Hand. Maya's gotten used to coming to therapy. The only thing that makes it bearable is the guy sitting next to her.

"What do you do when you're not here?" He asks her as the music plays on.

"Mostly practice/write music. I visit Katie too. And hang out with some friends. But it's mostly music. It's my life."

She looks at the older boy to see a smile on his face. "What?" She asks, a smile forming on her face as well. She can't help it. Something about the smile is contagious.

"It's just... You're kind of awesome, Maya. That's all." He says, biting his bottom lip. Maya looks down, her face bright red as she smiles. She's thought the same about Adam. She can't believe he feels the same.

She looks at his hand and hesitantly moves to lace her fingers through his. Adam looks at her, surprised, before holding her hand as well. They're both a little shy about it, but Maya asks him, "What about you? What do you do when you're not here?"

It gets the ball rolling again and they start talking, their hands staying linked until his therapist comes out. He tells her goodbye and releases her hand.

She watches as he leaves and misses the feel of her hand in his.

A few more weeks pass, and everyday they wait, their hands are in each others. Maya's been looking forward to coming to therapy to see him (and she's started opening up to her therapist more).

Adam doesn't know why, but he really likes the younger girl. She's different than most of the other girls at their school. He's glad he's gotten the opportunity to meet her outside the context of Degrassi.

"How's Katie doing?" Adam asks. He's avoided the question, but he and Katie were friends at one point, and she's important to Drew. He wants to know if she's okay.

"Better." Maya says. "She's going to be back by when school starts. I'm glad."

"Me too. But I knew she would. Your sister's strong. And she has an incredible little sister helping her through it."

Maya smiles at the boy and her therapist comes out. Before she joins her, Maya leans over and kisses Adam's cheek. The boy smiles as the girl goes to meet her therapist.

Yeah, he's definitely glad he got to meet her.

The following week, Maya walks into the waiting room, eager to see Adam. Her heart sinks when she sees he's not there. Her first thought is that some thing's wrong. Adam's always there before her.

She sits in her chair and waits, hoping that Adam will come in late. She listens to music and glances at the door. This is the loneliest she's been since coming to therapy and she doesn't like it.

Her therapist comes and Maya follows him, looking back at the door to see if it opens.

It doesn't.

A few days later, she's walking to the Dot for some fresh air. She's come to really enjoy it. The food's good and the company isn't bad either.

She has her headphones in her ears and she's trying to forget that Adam wasn't at therapy. She can't help but wonder why he wasn't there.

As she's walking, she accidentally bumps into someone. She looks up to see a boy wearing a beanie. She looks closer to see Adam. A smile of recognition comes onto his face as well.

"Maya, hey." He says, the smile still on his face. He looks genuinely happy to see her. It makes Maya feel warm inside for unexplainable reasons.

"Hey." She replies. She's happy to see him. Almost happy enough to forget he wasn't at therapy. She pauses for a minute before asking, "Why weren't you at therapy?"

Adam's surprised by her question but replies, "It was my last session."

Maya nods. It makes sense. But she's going to miss seeing him every week. And she wishes he would've told her. She likes him, and she thought he liked her enough to tell her that.

"Why didn't you tell me?" She asks, before she can stop the words from coming out. "I mean, I like you Adam, and I thought you liked me too, but-"

Her word vomit is cut off by him kissing her quickly. When he pulls away, she blushes. "I DO like you. A lot." He says. "I didn't know how to tell you. Sorry."

Maya nods. Adam reaches over and takes her hand. "Do you want to go get something to eat at the Dot or something? My treat." He says.

Maya smiles and nods as she tightens her grip on his hand. Adam smiles back at her and they begin walking toward the Dot, talking and laughing.

Looking at Adam and what they have (or could have), Maya's suddenly grateful that her parents sent her to therapy.

Fin.

Okay, I promise I'll stop spamming you guys with stories. But I just wanted to write another Adam/Maya oneshot (I will go down with this ship, especially since they're doing the Maybell storyline and probably a Adam/Becky one). I really like these two together. I think they could work really well if given the chance.

But anyways, sorry for the weirdness of this oneshot. It was just something I wanted to try. I actually kind of like how it turned out. It's not overly anything, I don't think. I hope you guys like it as well. I will probably be writing more Degrassi stuff, but I'll try not to post every day (unless you guys want me to). I'm just on vacation and have nothing else to do. And Degrassi's been inspiring me lately.

Disclaimer: I don't own Degrassi. Never have, and probably never will.
