I sighed sadly as I turned on the tree lights and made myself some fried fish. It was tasty, but it didn't make me feel any better. It was Christmas Day, and while I had gotten a few presents from friends, I hadn't even gotten a letter from my parents. Not even a letter! And it was Christmas, for god's sake, a time to be with the family. But I guessed my family had forgotten about me. Sighing, I headed outside and started walking towards the Town Hall to deposit some cash I had managed to earn selling fish.
However, when I got to the front of the building, a surprise made me stop in my tracks. A taxi was parked outside the Town Hall, and getting out of it were my parents! I rubbed my eyes and pinched myself to make sure I wasn't dreaming. It had been two years since I had seen them! However, this was no dream. My mother, with her long red hair and long blue coat, and my tall father, who hated to lose…they were both there!
"Mom! Dad!" I cried and waved at them, trying to get their attention. Noticing me, they both turned and waved at me. Grinning like a madman, I ran up to them and hugged my mother, who hugged me back while chuckling slightly. I then hugged my father and greeted them to my village. "It's been awhile! I'm so happy to see you!" I cried.
"It has been awhile...too long. Your father and I kept planning on visiting you, but work kept getting in the way." My mother explained. My father then smiled and put his arm around her waist.
"However, this year we managed to take some time off work, so we decided to surprise you with a visit. I hope you're not mad at us for staying away so long…"
"Dad, Mom, don't worry about it. I was a little worried when you guys didn't visit me even once, but I got Mom's letters, and that was enough! Besides, you've finally decided to visit me, and I couldn't be happier! How about we go back to my house and warm up by the fire?"
My parents nodded, and hand in hand we started to walk back to my house. It wasn't quite as large as I would have liked, but my parents seemed impressed with it nonetheless. The interior was pretty standard, just a table, a couch, a television, a few chairs, a stove, a fridge, and a dresser. However, that didn't matter to my parents. I cooked up some fried fish for them and we chatted long into the night, remembering Christmas's past and talking about things that had happened since I had left. Dad actually made it big as a journalist, while my mother was still an unknown romance writer.
However, at some point during the conversation, I must have fallen asleep, as I blacked out, and when I came to, I was in my bed upstairs. A note was left next to the telephone. Getting out of bed and rubbing my eyes, I read the note.
'Son,
Thank you for letting us spend time with you this Christmas. Seeing you again was wonderful and we truly are proud at house you have managed to live by yourself out here. I guess we kept you past your bedtime, as you passed out right in the middle of the conversation. Don't worry about it. It reminded us of just how cute you looked when you slept. Anyways, our presents are under the tree. We're coming over for New Years, if that's alright.
From,
Your father.'
Grinning like an idiot, I ran downstairs, wrote my parents a letter that basically stated that I would be ecstatic if they popped in during New Years Eve, and rushed over to the Town Hall to get it mailed. Seeing my parents more…I would love that. I can't wait to see them again.
