I don't own the characters in Moonlight – just love to write about them.

Spoiler: This takes place after the last episode "Sonata" and envisions Mick, after being re-turned into a vampire, as capable of fathering children. It also recreates a very pivotal point in Beth and Mick's relationship.

The No Star Motel

"You may be wondering how I found myself lying in a bathtub at the no star motel…" It goes back to a week ago.

She was finally finished with breast feeding the baby, putting him onto solids plus a bottle after seven months and he was off with a friend for the weekend. She'd been working out the details for what seemed like months and finally, all week long she'd been leaving Mick clues.

Like all good private investigators, he loves to solve mysteries, especially her particular brand. The week got more and more intriguing, building up inside him with an increasing intensity until he was almost to bursting. Other work was left undone; concentration shot ; all he could think about was her. Her smell, her smile, her full breasts which he had watched covetously as she breastfed, her pulse quickening when our eyes meet.

First he finds an orchid lying across their bed. What it's doing there is mystery number one. So he does his due diligence. Asks around and it turns out the orchid is one of the world's hardest flowers to get to bloom, demanding great skill on the part of the grower. Even to the point of restricting the sunlight, it's that delicate.

Then out of the blue he gets a card from Lennie Hayes with a picture of herself, little Jack and her new husband who looks adoringly at the two of them. Good for her, she deserves some happiness after witnessing for the prosecution of Amir Fayed.

He's got a hunch now but still following the clues and finds a list she's left: cooler with lots of ice. Hmm, are we picnicking?

But then a stumbler: a picture of the Santa Monica Pier's roller coaster with people laughing and screaming. Alright, she's got me on that one.

He puzzles that one all day until it dawns on him and with a grin, heads out of town speeding along the highway. The humming of the Mercedes is only matched by the humming of his body, thrilling in anticipation.

And finds himself rapping at the door of a room in what used to be the dirtiest little out of the way motel … in Victorville, where he almost died and she gave him her blood for the first time. She's cleaned things up a lot, it looks to be re-opened for business.

Then she opens the door wearing only her trenchcoat pulled up in the neck and sleeves … and a smile. And he knows he's come home.
