Reverberations

Roger blinker the wetness from his eyes, humming under his breath as callused fingers went through the motions of strumming at his guitar. Rain slivered down bare arms, little drips of clear liquid running down old and new track marks alike.

"I'm as eloquent as an elephant

That is, headstrong as the Mighty King Kong

On a rampage, throwing airplanes

I can't believe you haven't gone away, gone away"

Mark would find him soon, take him to the loft and argue about the drugs before Roger would yell and hit him. Then Mark would lock him up and call Collins, sobbing quietly. It was a repetitive, weekly task that began again after Mimi's death. Old habits die hard, and sometimes just don't die.

"I'm difficult, argumentative

'Bout as thick skulled as the dinosaur bones

On a display in glass case

I can't believe you haven't run away, run away"

He winced at the words flowing from his dry, cracked lips. At the truth. He had written this song after withdrawal, the last song before 'You Eyes', for Mark/ Not that he ever had the courage to sing the stupid thing to him

"It must be different through your eyes

'Cause you look at me like it's the first time

The first time that you've ever seen my face"

Roger hissed to himself as a bout of pain swept through, if Mark wasn't here in the next few minutes he'd probably go off to find some drugs. That wasn't his intention at first. His intentions was to sit in the rain with his guitar and pray for hypothermia.

"I'm preoccupied with a crowded mind

I get off track like a train rolling back to the future

Never too sure who'll be here when I come

Back around

But I'm finding out"

He could hear it, the click of heels against pavement, a manly gasp, shocked silence. He smiled to himself. Once again he was found, saved, for a few moment, from hi pain and his thoughts. His savior.

"It must be different through your eyes

'Cause you look at me like it's the first time

The first time you've ever seen my face"

Roger stopped, looking up at Mark with dull, lifeless eyes. Lips move but no sound issues, fingers twitch to no avail. The music died. Mark didn't speak as he grasped his friend by the arm and led him away.
