Hey guys. Wrote this while I was working on one of my essays. Kinda angsty and contains character death...

The long day was over and she was finally alone. Some had offered to stay, filled with discomfort at the thought of her solitude but she had brushed them off with an 'I'm fine' smile and sent them on their way, armed with promises of a call should she require anything. The promises were false though, all who knew her were aware of this.

For the first few hours she'd busied herself with the task of cleaning the mess that remained from their gathering. Now, without that menial duty to occupy her body and mind her sat on the couch staring into space, a tumbler of amber liquid cradled in her slender fingers.

The only sounds that filled the empty cavern of the house was the steady ticking of the clock and the gentle tapping of the faithful boxer's paws against the floor as he wandered through the rooms.

The ghost of a smile played briefly across her lips; the dog knew something was amiss and was searching for that which had been lost. She shook her head sadly, the strawberry blond strands whispering past her face. His quest would prove fruitless - no power on earth could retrieve her missing piece now.

She lifted her gaze to the stand that held his picture, blue locking with blue like they had done countless times before.

A single tear slipped down her cheek as she raised her left arm and glass in a toast, the dim light catching the diamond ring that adorned her finger, making it twinkle like the stars he'd loved to admire.

"Rest in peace my love."

Short and not so sweet I guess. Let me know what you think.
