A/N: Hi! So, this is my first fic. I was really inspired by Claire's character, and I'm going to be writing mostly about her and her life before 10 09. If I feel really inspired, I'll continue until after, but for now this is all about Claire, and her life of crime. This is kinda a prologue.
Chapter 1
"Honey, I'll be back soon, I promise." Mom said, crouching down to my height. "You understand why I have to go, right?"
"You have to go… find yourself." I repeated, trying to keep the bitterness out of my voice. I understood why Mom was doing this, but it didn't make it any easier. Dad disappearing again was just as hard for me as it was for her, harder even. I was there when my dad got all weird and deep-voiced. He kept talking about angels, and one named Castiel. When he turned around and said: "I'm not your father" something in me broke. I wasn't sure why, but I knew I was never going to see my dad again. And I had just acted out my worst fear. Castiel had almost killed my dad with my own hands. I heard my voice saying: "It's in her blood, just as it was in yours", but I wasn't controlling it. I was screaming, but no words were coming out. I yelled for Castiel to stop, to leave my dad alone, but he wouldn't listen.
When Castiel took Dad back, I was free. But I couldn't do the only thing I'd been wanting to do all year: hug my dad. When Sam and Dean left, we did all we could. We went home, and packed up as quickly as we could.
Mom and I didn't speak all the way to Gran's, but I saw her crying in the rearview mirror.
When we got to Gran's, we unloaded my two suitcases first, but Mom didn't grab her stuff. I figured it was because she was the adult and thought she had to take care of me first, but now I know the truth.
"Yes, Claire. I have to find myself." Mom replied, pulling me in for a hug. The third one that day, but it wasn't like I was complaining. I didn't know when I'd see her again. I had just lost dad again and now I was losing her, too.
"Do you really have to go?" I pleaded again over her shoulder. I felt her nod, and take a deep, shaky breath.
"I'll be right back." Mom said with a smile. But the tears that leaked down her face said something else. "Don't wait up."
"We won't." Gran said from behind me.
Speak for yourself. I thought. I'll stay up the rest of my life for her.
