"Mama!"
Everything was red. My mother was slumped over my shaking body. I was in tears, a pain like no other. It was April 18th 1857, my fifth birthday.
"Mama! Where's papa! Where's Onee-chan!"
There was no reply. The child felt sleepy, barely able to stay awake. Her vision was blurred and the room was dark. As she slowly slipped to into unconsciousness she saw a man walk past, dropping a pointed object, most probably a knife, to the ground.
"Mama?"
Harumi awoke with a scream, looking around the dark room. There was nobody there. It was all a dream. Even though it had only been twenty years the dream was still haunting. Harumi was one of the only Shinigami to have her memories, although the pink haired child hated them. Haunting memories of death. The only memories she held.
She stood, walking over to the screen door, opening it slightly. A bright light shone into her eyes, making Harumi squint.
What time is it?...
That's when another Shingami sped past. He had spiked, brown hair, along with matching eyes. He was a very muscular teen, and a fellow member of Squad 5. His name was Daiku.
The squad member stopped, peeping into the crack in the door, bending down to the short girl's height.
"Harumi! Nice to see you're finally awake~ I heard you scream..."
He slid the door open, hugging her tightly. The cheerful tone from his voice vanished, only sympathy left.
"You had another dream didn't you kid?"
The pinkette nodded, holding back a few tears. Her long, almost floor length hair was practically covering the two. Daiku chuckled, taking her hand and sliding off the small, purple, hair tie on Harumi's wrist, tying her hair back into a pony tail.
"Silly girl, you should know by now, if the bad dreams come back, you can come and find me, or Megumi! We'll keep them away, in fact, I'll chase 'em till they're too scared to come back!"
With that he began to chase the girl around her room, before grabbing her shihakusho and throwing it to her.
"Hurry up and get ready, Hinamori-fukutaichou gave Megumi a message for ya~"
"H-Hai... Now leave so I can get dressed Daiku-san!"
He left, laughing, leaving her to get dressed.
Harumi quickly tied the obi sash around her clothing, grabbing the Zanpakuto propped up in the corner and run out of her small room. It was a bright, Summer's day, the barracks were near to empty, and Harumi just knew...
...It was going to be a horrific day.
