The two of us stepped past a broken down school, bodies of children everywhere, half eaten and otherwise. You flinched away from one of the bodies when it twitched. There was no use looking if the person was still alive because of the yellow eyes and the grey pallor of their skin.
When we finally reached a store it was almost a relief, we hadn't eaten in a while and just about anything would be edible right now.
We entered the store, the bell making a soft tinkling sound, attracting the three commons within the store. One took a bullet to the head, another got a machete to the gut and the third one took a frying pan to the head.
We separated, me moving to the canned goods isle to see if anything had survived and you moving to the toiletries to see what we needed.
I glanced around before I spotted the intact canned goods. I started pilling the cans into my backpack, soup, beans, meat and fruit. After that I went to the packaged goods.
You moved closer to the toilet paper, pilling the remaining ones into your backpack. After that you grabbed some toothpaste and anything else we might need. Just as you bent down and put some of the bandages into your backpack there was a screech and you straitened up.
What was that?
You shuffled to my side, curling your fingers around my arm and tugging softly. I glanced up to you, question in my eyes and you motioned over to where you had been standing. My gun lifted and pointed into that direction. Your Magnum paralleled mine and both of us waited for something to happen.
In the shadows something moved, green shimmered in the dark. Another screech ripped the silence apart before an arm was seen. As the thing shuffled closer both of us cringed. The thing was female, green acid dripping down from its open and partially burned mouth. It gurgled loudly before it breathed in. Both of our muscles tightened in anxiety.
Suddenly a large green acid ball came hurtling our way and both of us yelped. I pushed you left as I dove right. The ball hit between us and sizzled out of existence. As the thing shuffled closer my gun leveled and I put three bullets into its head in succession.
It screeched as it dropped to the ground in a puddle of green acid that sizzled and popped softly.
My gun lowered before I moved to your side and helped you up.
This was a normal day.
