Born on the darkest of nights
With no birth-right
Hiding a secret worse than the deceit
The dishonest deception on which I was conceived
Taken to Sir Ector to live as his son
But no one knew Uther Pendragon would die
Leaving Britain no heir and no means to survive
There were Saxons on the border, conflict from within
I was given an ultimatum by a man called Merlin
If I pulled Caliburn from its place in stone
The people would recognise my right to the throne
But if I drew the sword, I would accept the hardship
I would have to shoulder Britain's mantle of leadership
I knew exactly what the people needed me to be
I chose to answer with the Pendragon blood in me
Without looking back, I grabbed the hilt of the sword
And I vowed to see the glory of Britain, restored
Under my care, Britain was united
Under my reign, many a good man was knighted
I ruled from Camelot, I was the King of Knights
Believing in equality and all of my subjects' rights
I chose a Round Table so our ideals would unite
I was no tyrant and fought to do right
I chose to take on all of my people's hope and dreams
And not to be consumed by any human form of greed
Caliburn was destroyed by an evil once employed
But by the Lady of the Lake, I had Excalibur
But for the people's sake I needed a Queen of calibre
It was Guinevere who chose to share my duty
She had such intelligence and was a great beauty
But it wasn't just the eye of the King she had caught
Lancelot and my Queen met up in secret
And it was then, that they began to court
I chose to rule the people as a model human being
Just and righteous and selflessly devoted
But people said that I'd sacrificed my humanity
My lack of emotions driving them to insanity
They say my light was too bright, and they chose the comfort of the night
And when it was exposed, the affair that was there
I could not blame them for it was love in their hearts
But using this excuse they tore Britain apart
And so it all ended at the Battle of Camlann
Both, the same sides, down to the last man
Mordred enquired why I had hated him so
And I replied that I had never really ever done so
His lack of qualities barred him as my heir
He had no makings of a King, so I finished him there
I looked upon the silent bloodied hill in despair
And I cried out to the Heavens, "Is this fair?"
As I felt the call of Avalon, I spoke to Bedivere
"Tell the people exactly what had happened here
Speak of me as I was, with all of my flaws
Let future Kings not do the same in their cause
Tell them what I did and did not for Britain"
Little did I know I would become a legend once written
And little did they know there was one thing unwritten
I ruled as King Arturia Pendragon, a woman.
