I was in hot water this time. It wasn't the first time I got in trouble with the law (usually due to vandalism), but I usually just got away with nothing more than a slap on the wrist. Now, everything's different. I was behind bars. For how long? I don't know; the police wouldn't tell me. I hit the wall with my fist in frustration when Sheriff Blubs came in.
"Robbie, you have a visitor."
A visitor? Who was it? My parents? Wendy? No. I looked down to see that red-nosed thirteen year old.
"Pines? What are you doing here?" I asked.
"Wendy sent me. She was too mad to speak to you."
Ugh. Figures she'd be upset with me; not that she didn't have good reason. I sighed, sinking on the cot in my cell.
"Why did you do it?" asked Dipper.
"I don't know. Maybe I was bored; maybe I just wanted attention."
"You know that doesn't excuse what you did."
"I know."
I lay down on the cot, starring at the ceiling into nothingness.
"What do I do?" I asked, "My reputation is ruined. How am I suppose to face the world with everyone knowing what I did?"
"Depends on how much people are willing to forgive you. I can't be the judge of that."
I had a feeling the kid wouldn't sugarcoat the situation.
"I guess I'm just beyond redemption at this point."
"Well, you could try making an effort to change." said Dipper.
"How?" I asked.
"Well, taking responsibility for your actions is a first step."
"What about my career as an artist? How will people react to knowing about what I did?"
"Hard to say." said Dipper, "It all depends on whether or not people are able to separate the artist from the art."
I sighed. Things weren't going to be easy for me, I could tell. Dipper sure didn't shy away from the truth. I guess that was why Wendy sent him to see me.
Sheriff Blubs came over and opened the cell door.
"You're free to go, Robbie."
I should've felt relieved to be free, but all I could think of was what will happen next. I got up from the cot and headed to the exit. As I did, Dipper called out to me and I turned my head over to him.
"What you do next is all up to you now."
I nodded and headed out the door.
