Flashback to a few hours earlier. It was dark. Dark as it got. It was a slow night for Rorschach. It seemed that all of the criminals had called in sick. As he sat upon the roof, ever watchful, he heard a rumbling sound. Startled at first, he checked his surroundings. Mentally scolding himself for letting someone find him. The sound came back. Louder this time. Letting out a sigh of relief, he decided to head to Daniels. His stomach was demanding food that had been denied for so long.
Rorschach walked to the edge of the building and checked his surroundings once again. Closer to Daniel's then I thought he thought to himself as he jumped down the fire escape. Once at his former partners residence, he noticed that no lights were on. Not home, Rorschach thought, then his mind began to wonder to darker places. Could be hurt? Dying? Already dead?
Not waiting to think twice, he raised up his leg and kicked in the door. "Not home" he mumbled to himself. The rumbling incressed tenfold. As Rorschach made his way to the kitchen, he got the feeling that something just was not quite right. Not one to ignore his gut feeling, he readied himself for action. Forcefully throw open the kitchen door.....all the lights flew on.
"SURPRISE!"
Rorschach punched the closest thing to him. Which just so happened to be Veidt. Everyone was speachless, well, except for the Comedian of course. Who busted out with laughter at teh sight infront of him.
"What did youdo that for?" Veidt asked as Daniel helped him up.
"Don't like surprises." Rorschach stated. Not guilty in the least.
"Well, you did not have to take it out on me. We were all apart of your surprise party." Veidt said looking somewhat between hurt and understanding.
"You were closest," Rorschach said while he took in the faces of everyone around him,"and I don't care for you.
Laughter erupted from the Comedian once again. "You tell him Rorry!"
Veidt looked enraged now. "Rorschach, I know we were never friends, but you're being unfair."
"Unfair?", Rorschach turned on his toes and headed for the front door. "Hurm."
"RORRY!" Veidt yelled at the retreating form.
Veidt realized his mistake as soon as he had said it. Within what seemed like a second Rorschach had him by the collar and throw him onto the table. Ruining not only the table, but the birthday cake as well.
"Never call me "Rorry"!", he yelled as he left the party.
By the end of Rorscachs sentence, the Comedian was nearly in tears.
"Happy birthday, Rorscach." Daniel said, trying to hide the smirk that kept escaping upon his face.
