Sometimes, all we can do in life is to wait.
Patience.
If there is only one thing Alex Karev has learned from Seattle Grace, it is patience.
He didn't win Izzie's heart, so he sticks around and waits.
He wants to specialize in plastics, so he waits around; fetching dry cleaning, dabbing blood--nothing surgical.
And he hardly ever complains.
But what if his patience has been misguided? Perhaps Izzie isn't the girl for him, perhaps Plastics is the wrong specialty.
He scratches his head.
Misguided desires are as bad as a lack of patience, if not worse.
He saw the shimmering in Addison's eyes.
He likes her, as a doctor; she has great skills.
He likes her, as a woman; she has strong will.
But he doesn't like her the way he likes Izzie. It's more like the chocolate cake lady at Joe's Bar. He could flirt with her, but not love her.
Addison reminds him of an older sister, an aunt, maybe his mother, although she's the only one who's turned him on.
He likes Addison but if she becomes more than a mentor to him, it would be a joke. Really.
Patience.
He hopes she understands the importance of that too.
She will find someone better some day.
He will win the heart of Izzie Stevens.
Misguided desires are not worth the waiting.
