Free

The wind blows gently, whipping the tendrils of fiery hair about her head. It whispers the promises of adventure, freedom, and the thrill in life that the world has to offer her. Where she can run without hindrance, dance without shame, and sing without fear.

She runs with the wind, allowing herself just a taste of the freedom she can barely touch. Still bound by her home, family, and duties. These are the only times where she can try to unwind, and glimpse at the life she can't have.

The cool water runs through her fingers, sending a thrilling feeling of life through her at its touch. The creek gurgles with delight, celebrating its eternal freedom. The sun shines brightly, reaching down with light to warm her skin. The trees sway in time with the wind and rock the birds as they sing.

The waist high grass rocks like green waves in an ocean. Instead of thunderous, roars, the wind urges forth a rustling sound from the fields.

Oh, the sounds of the outdoors! The sounds that sing gently, yet seem to shout, "Freedom!"

She breathes in deeply, trying to absorb their cries of freedom. Wishing that she could join them, that she could contribute her own voice to the glorious choir of nature. But it cannot be that way. She knows this as well as anyone. This is as close as she will get. But she'll take every bit she can find. Realizing this and accepting what she has is freeing in itself.

Merida Dunbroch was full of life. She was brave, spirited, stubborn, and strong. But she realizes in this moment, that most of all, she really is free. All she has to do is follow her destiny.

For that will set Merida Dunbroch free.
