Moonsplash sat up, licking her pelt, which gleamed in the bright morning sun. She watched her sister, Berrymist, purr and entwine her tail with Stormcall's. Her sister, a cream she-cat, was not as beautiful as herself, and yet, she had managed to find a tom who loved her. Of course, someone as beautiful as herself had her eyes set on a tom already. He was Pineheart, one of the most handsome toms in the clan. Speaking of the handsome tom, he was coming over right now.

"Moonsplash, do you have time to go hunting? Rippleclaw wants us to go hunting," Pineheart mewed.

"Of course I have time, Pineheart. Shall we head out now?" Pineheart nodded in response, before padding out of the RiverClan camp, his well groomed fur glistening in the light. Moonsplash bounded after him, excited to show off her hunting skills and grace.

"Moonsplash? We should go back now! It's already sunset and we have plenty of prey!" Pineheart called, two trouts and a pike dangling from his jaws. Moonsplash raised her head from the water, and shrugged, picking up her three carps. Moonsplash padded alongside Pineheart, and she frowned when he didn't brush his pelt against hers or anything. Instead, he looked straight ahead, his face showing no emotion at all. Moonsplash dropped her prey off, before quickly trotting ahead, and fell into her nest, tears glowing in her eyes. Why doesn't he love me? Why can't he accept me? Moonsplash's heavy thoughts burdened her as she fell asleep. StarClan let him notice me.

"Wake up, Moonsplash. I have news to tell you," whispered Berrymist, curling her cream tail around her white paws. Moonsplash groggily raised her head, noticing the sparkle in her sister's misty blue eyes.

"What is it, Berrymist?" Berrymist held her breath for a second, and looked like she was going to explode from her nest. Moonsplash leaned closer to her sister, begging for her to say that she had heard Pineheart talking about finding a mate that was a pale silver.

"I'm expecting Stormcall's kits! They're due in about two moons!" Moonsplash stared at her sister, a hollow feeling opening up in her stomach. "What's wrong, Moonsplash? Aren't you happy for me?" Moonsplash swallowed the bile in her throat, and instantly felt guilty when she saw her sister's crestfallen face.

"Of course I am! I'm just sad that we won't get to hunt together anymore, that's all. They'll be perfect." Berrymist's face lit up with happiness, and she purred in delight.

"I knew you would be happy! I need to go tell Stormcall now!" Moonsplash propped herself up, grooming her already perfect fur, but she needed something to do. Will I ever find love? The other toms in the clan are drooling for me, but the one I want just doesn't notice me. Why is StarClan so cruel to me?

Late-Newleaf

Moonsplash glanced up from her carp as Pineheart passed, flashing hopeful crystal eyes at him. Instead, she was left heartbroken as he trotted forward, without even looking at her. She glanced at the nursery, sighing as she saw her sister playing with her kits. Dawnkit, a cream tabby she-kit, was leaping at a ball of moss, and Hawkkit, whose dark tabby pelt was the same as his father's, was pouncing at a leaf. "Moonsplash? W-would you like to s-share this p-pike with me?" Moonsplash looked up, sighing as she spotted Darkflame.

"No thanks. I've already eaten today," Moonsplash replied, looking away, tail twitching. The dark gray tabby tom let his tail droop, his flaming amber eyes glistening with sadness. The only tom I'll share with is Pineheart. If he'd just notice me! Moonsplash glanced at the tom, who was digging into a water vole, and she smiled, watching the way his flanks went up and down. Suddenly, he turned around, fixing her with a stare. She smiled, giving a light purr, and he blinked once, before nodding and going back to his meal. Moonsplash immediately felt crushed, and turned towards the nursery, feeling tears well up in her eyes. Forever, she had dreamed to be there, bearing Pineheart's kits, and feeling the warmth of the nursery.

"Moonsplash! Let's go for a walk. I need to talk to you," Pineheart mewed, padding up towards her. Moonsplash immediately bounced up, nodding vigorously. Pineheart trotted briskly out of camp, and she followed him, reaching the one of the many rivers that flowed through RiverClan territory.

"What did you want to tell me?" Moonsplash asked, blinking her eyes in an attempt to capture Pineheart in her crystal gaze. Pineheart awkwardly clawed the ground, glancing at the beautiful she-cat that stood next to him.

"Well, I just wanted to tell you... that... I'm not interested," Pineheart whispered, his eyes not daring to meet those of Moonsplash. Moonsplash felt her shoulders slump, but said nothing, as she continued looking up with widened blue eyes.

"I don't… I don't understand what you mean." Pineheart flicked his tail, and glanced around wildly. It almost seemed like he regretted what he was going to say soon, to this lovestruck cat.

"I mean… I can see the way you stare at me, and how you talk about how much you love me…. but, I'm not interesting in finding a mate." Moonsplash drew in a sharp breath, her eyes flickering with tears. "I'm sorry, Moonsplash, so sorry. I wish things were different, I really do."

Moonsplash suddenly felt a surge of anger through her heart, and all love and happiness spiraled away.

"You pathetic warrior! Stop sugarcoating all of your lies, and just go with the truth! Okay, I understand that you don't love me, but do you really have to lie about it? I'm done with you, Pineheart! I'm done trying to please you here and there! I've thrown away all the other toms for you, and this is how you repay me? I hope you go to the Dark Forest after you've died pitifully alone! I don't deserve this!" Moonsplash shrieked, her fur bristling in anger. Pineheart looked taken aback, and looked extremely guilty because of the pain he had caused her.

"Moonsplash… I'm sorry.. I didn't know how much I hurt you…. Please forgive me," Pineheart whispered, stepping forward, and fixing her will deep green eyes. Any other time, she would've melted in his eyes, but today was not the day.

"No! I will never forgive you! Goodbye, Pineheart!" Moonsplash whipped around, and marched away, ignoring the cold tears flowing freely down her cheeks.

Late-Leaffall

"Dawnpaw! Hawkpaw! Dawnpaw! Hawkpaw!" Moonsplash chanted, her eyes glowing with pride for her sister's kits. She now sat in the nursery, her tail wrapped protectively around her growing belly. She would be giving birth to her kits in about two moons, and she had decided to move to the nursery early, to avoid any problems for her kits. A handsome silver-gray tabby tom with thick black stripes and glowing golden eyes padding towards the nursery, and quickly nuzzled Moonsplash's fur.

"Moonsplash, I know our kits will someday be over there too, and our eyes will glow with even more pride," Rippleclaw purred softly. After she had given up on that frog-dung Pineheart, she had decided to take Rippleclaw, the deputy, as her mate. True, she would always love Pineheart just a little, but she had decided to give Rippleclaw a chance, and he hadn't failed her yet.

"I know they will. I like the name Dovekit. Could we name one of our kits that?" Moonsplash whispered, pressing closer to her mate's fur. Rippleclaw let out a low purr, before heading back over to assign patrols. Smiling, she glancing towards the shadowed place under highrock, and almost jumped back as she saw the deep green eyes of Pineheart. After she had cast him out of her life, he often sat in the shadows of camp, watching everything. A part of Moonsplash felt that he had meant what he said that day, and that he had loved her for a short time, but Moonsplash just couldn't forgive him.

"Moonsplash! I'll miss my little bundles of fur, but I can't wait for your kits to come. I'm sure they'll be lovely," Berrymist mewed, padding up to her sister. Her kits, now six moons old, were trotting around their mentors, pelts fluffed out. Moonsplash nodded in response, before glancing at Nightstar. His pitch black pelt was almost invisible against the night sky, and his pale blue eyes glistened with intelligence. He was a good leader. Moonsplash closed her eyes, and the last thing she saw was the bright full moon, after which she was named.

Moonsplash yawned, padding sleepily towards the fresh-kill pile. The sun had risen over the border, shining light over the camp. She dug through the fresh-kill pile, imagining a fat, juicy carp for her meal. Sighing, all she could find were some minnows, pikes, and trout. Nothing she wanted. Unsatisfied, Moonsplash was about to drag out a plump water vole, before jumping at a low voice behind her.

"Here, Moonsplash. You can have this carp." Moonsplash glanced up in alarm, meeting the deep green gaze of Pineheart. Moonsplash's mouth open slightly, looking at the pink-brown fish in his jaws. "I remember that you love carp. If you want, you can have it." Moonsplash nodded in response, leaning up to pluck the carp out of his jaws. As she reached the tail of the carp, she tugged on it, but Pineheart didn't let go. Instead, he gazed at her with his enrapturing dark green eyes. Moonsplash gasped slightly, and looked back at him, feeling the memories of being with him swimming back to her. Eventually, he let go, and she lifted the carp over towards the nursery. Suddenly, a flash of gray flew before her eyes, and she gasped as Pineheart fell over, with a claw against his throat.

"Stay away from my mate, Pineheart! I'm not an idiot! I know that you two used to have a thing going on, and now you're just trying to take her away from me because you lost her!" Rippleclaw shouted, his eyes glistening in anger. Moonsplash knew she should've just stayed quiet, but she couldn't, as her first love was under attack.

"No, stop it, Rippleclaw!" Moonsplash yowled, tackling Rippleclaw so that he fell off the russet tom. "He wasn't doing anything wrong, he was just giving me a carp. Stop, please." Rippleclaw and Pineheart gave her a blank stare, as if they couldn't believe what had just happened. Rippleclaw snorted in disgust, before marching up to Moonsplash.

"Moonsplash, I'm not blind, and neither are you. You know that he was trying to get you, and I was just trying to protect you and our kits. Now, go take the carp, and leave Pineheart here. I don't want you talking to him," Rippleclaw whispered, his whiskers brushing her ears. Moonsplash hesitated for a moment, but then dipped her head, grabbed the carp, and quickly trotted back towards the nursery. As she looked back, she spotted Rippleclaw and Pineheart giving each other glares as sharp as flint. Then, Moonsplash understood what that carp exchange was all about. Pineheart was giving her one last chance to choose him, and if she didn't… he would get his fair share of what he wanted. Moonsplash shivered, and curled up in her nest, closing her blue eyes.

Mid-Leafbare

Moonsplash's eyes glowed with love as she watched her three one moon old kits prance around in the freshly fallen snow. Rippleclaw sat next to her, and Moonsplash pressed against her mate for warmth. Ashkit, a sturdy dark gray tabby tom with tufted black ears and his father's glowing golden eyes, was the oldest, and he was throwing snow at his two sisters. Dovekit, a white she-kit with pale silver dapples and dark blue eyes, glowered at Ashkit, who simply bounced away. Their youngest, Snowkit, who was a small fluffy pure white she-kit with silver ear tips and sparkling pale green eyes, yelped as a snowball hit her. "They're my pride and joy. I can't imagine life without them," Moonsplash purred.

"I can't imagine life without you, Moonsplash," Rippleclaw replied, purring softly. Moonsplash nuzzled against him, before locking eyes with Pineheart, who was watching her kits with an evil glint in his eyes. Moonsplash shivered, and she glanced at her kits, her eyes melting with love once more. I won't let anyone hurt you, loves. I promise. "I have to go take care of the patrols, so I'll see you later, my darling." Rippleclaw licked her muzzle, before leaving the nursery, and quickly playing with his kits.

"Mama, look! Look at my front paw swipe!" Moonsplash raised her muzzle from her paws, having been woken from her nap. Ashkit narrowed his eyes, before quickly swiping out his paw, bringing with him a flurry of snow.

"Ashkit, that's amazing! You look like a real warrior! When'd you learn that?" Moonsplash asked, a slight purr in her tone. Ashkit turned towards his mother, puffing out his chest with pride. Dovekit snorted, while Snowkit simply tried to copy him, but instead, fell into the snow, and fluffed out her pelt.

"Owlpaw! He just showed me. I want to fight real battles!" Ashkit replied, bouncing towards his mother. Moonsplash shivered a bit. She couldn't bear the thought of her perfect kits getting hurt.

"Alright, my loves. It's getting a bit cold outside, so why don't you come back in?" Moonsplash purred, curling her tail around her kits, ignoring their mews of protest. "It's getting late, and I know you're tired."

"No, we aren't!" squealed Snowkit, her green eyes sparkling indignantly. "We want to stay out, please?"

Rippleclaw softly padded up behind his mate, eyes glowing with gentle pride. "Your mother is right. You three need some sleep, and you'll be apprentices soon."

Dovekit jumped up, with her blue orbs shining. "Really?" Snowkit and Ashkit looked up with happiness, nodding. The energetic kits bounced around through the blanket of snow, tails trembling in delight.

"Of course, your father wouldn't lie to you. Now, let's get you to your nests," Moonsplash mewed, licking Rippleclaw's ears. "We wouldn't want you getting cold," she cooed. Moonsplash shooed her kits back into the nursery, while Rippleclaw allowed a low purr in his throat. Moonsplash tucked her kits into their nest, making sure they each had a little warm feather to cuddle with, and she curled her body around the soft bundles of fur, giving their ruffled pelts long, smooth licks.

"We're still not tired, Moonsplash. Can't we go pla-?" Ashkit complained, before being interrupted by a small yawn. Moonsplash purred softly, licking his tufted black ears.

"You were saying?" Moonsplash whispered. Ashkit didn't reply with words, instead his soft snoring echoed throughout the nursery. Moonsplash purred, fixing her kits with loving eyes, and closed her eyes, drifting into peaceful, light sleep.

"Snowkit? Snowkit! Where are you? Mama, wake up!" Moonsplash's eyes snapped open, as she felt a small paw poking at her. Moonsplash whipped around, her eyes widened with surprise. Dovekit was peering around the nursery, her eye's flashing back and forth throughout the night.

"What's wrong, Dovekit?" Moonsplash asked, standing up immediately, and causing Ashkit to topple off her back.

"Oof! What was that for?" Ashkit squeaked in anger. Moonsplash licked his ears to comfort him, but immediately turned back towards Dovekit.

"I j-just woke up… and I c-can't find Snowkit a-anywhere! I can't lose her, she's my best friend!" Dovekit wailed, letting the tears leak out of her eyes. Moonsplash gasped in horror, glancing around the nursery with widened eyes. Ashkit said nothing, but shrunk into the ground, as if hoping this was just a dream. Moonsplash dashed out of the nursery, looking around for the fluffy white pelt of Snowkit.

"Snowkit! Snowkit is missing! I can't find her!" Moonsplash yowled into the night sky, alerting all the warriors. Warriors and apprentices alike dashed out of their dens, their eyes scanning the camp to see what the matter was. Rippleclaw burst out of the warriors' den first, leaping over towards his mate, his eyes widened.

"What's wrong? What did you say was missing?" Rippleclaw asked, entwining his tail with Moonsplash's.

"I… I can't find Snowkit anywhere!" Moonsplash wailed, crumpling into her mate's shoulder. Rippleclaw's mouth opened in disbelief, and he immediately began to move around the assembled cats.

"Everybody, calm down, please!" Moonsplash looked up, and spotted Nightstar at the top of highrock, his gaze calm as he glanced at his warriors. "I understand that Snowkit is missing, and we will send patrols out as soon as possible! Rippleclaw, take Leafstorm, Troutpelt, and Birdwhisker and search by the waterfall and around. Darkleaf, go take Streambrook and Stoneheart and search by the ponds. Moonsplash, I assure you that we will find Snowkit." The patrols pelted out of the camp, ignoring the stinging cold winds of Leafbare. Moonsplash padded back into the nursery, licking Ashkit and Dovekit ears in an attempt to smooth their ruffled pelts.

"Now, don't tell anyone. But, I'm going to go out and search for Snowkit myself. I know her best, and I'm sure I'll find her. Just sit tight, my darlings," Moonsplash whispered, giving them one last lick, before leaving the nursery. Moonsplash was able to head out of camp without the other warriors noticing, and she tilted her ears. She could hear nothing out of the ordinary. Moonsplash raised her muzzle, and instead of finding Snowkit's scent, she spotted a russet pelt moving through the trees. Pineheart? Moonsplash padded forward, and spotted the handsome tom by the trees, looking around to make sure no cat was around. What's he doing? I don't remember Nightstar telling him to go search. Still, he's moving kinda funny. I wonder what he's up to?

"Moonsplash?" Moonsplash whipped around, finding herself staring into flaming amber eyes. "What are you doing out here?" Darkflame asked, his breath visible in the cold air. Moonsplash glancing back at Pineheart, who had stopped moving, turning to look in her direction.

"Duck," Moonsplash hissed, shoving him under the bushes. Pineheart's gaze lingered at their hiding place for a second, before scanning the rest of the territory. Eventually, he turned around, and padding closer towards Sunningrocks. Moonsplash stood up, allowing Darkflame to stand up as well. "I'm looking for Snowkit. I couldn't just let the other warriors look for her when she is my kit. Please don't tell anyone."

"I won't, Moonsplash. If you want to look for her, it's your choice. Just be careful," Darkflame whispered, a longing look in his eyes. Moonsplash dipped her head as he disappeared through the night, and she continued to follow the trail of Pineheart. Padding through the cold night, she began to wonder where he was going, until she realized the trail stopped by the edge of the river, the one that was at the base of Sunningrocks. Suspicious, she slunk into the river, and swam strongly, ignoring the stinging pains of the cold water. As she reached the shore, she pulled herself out, shaking pelt, shivering as the night air flew at her. Is this really worth it? Moonsplash leaped nimbly and silently up the stones, pausing every time she heard a small pebble drop. She eventually reached the smooth surface of Sunningrocks, and gasped as she saw them. Pineheart was with a gorgeous pale brown she-cat, and they were cooing and purring at each other. Traitor! Liar! You broke the warrior code! She couldn't take it anymore, this lie and betrayal.

"Pineheart! What are you doing with her? I thought you were a loyal RiverClan warrior!" Moonsplash spat, stalking towards the happy couple. Pineheart whipped around, his eyes widened. The pale brown she-cat said nothing, but simply pressed close to Pineheart.

"I am loyal, Moonsplash. I haven't told her any of our secrets. Is it so wrong to fall in love with a cat from another clan?" Pineheart replied cooly. Moonsplash fluffed her pelt out in anger, and her eyes teared. She had always still loved the handsome tom, even though she had moved on.

"You told me you weren't interested in finding a mate! Yes, it is! The warrior code forbids making friends in other clans, much less finding a mate!" Moonsplash hissed in anger. Suddenly, a small, fluffy white she-cat darted out of the bushes, and her eyes sparkled with happiness as she spotted her mother.

"Moonsplash! I was looking all over the for-," Snowkit purred, before suddenly yelping, as a claw hooked her up. Moonsplash gasped, as she saw Snowkit dangling from Pineheart's claws.

"Pineheart! What are you doing? Set Snowkit down right now!" Moonsplash shrieked, her face turning and contorting into total rage, leapt forward. Pineheart simply jumped back, chuckling as Moonsplash reaching for her kit. The pale brown she-cat watched from behind Pineheart with widened eyes, but she didn't say anything. "Stop it, Pineheart! I'll do anything! Just give me Snowkit back!" Moonsplash was close to tears now, but she continued to reach for her kit.

"Very well. I will let her go, if you promise to never tell anyone about Fawnfeather and I. Okay?" Pineheart purred silkily, enjoying every second. Fawnfeather? That's her name? I've seen her before at gatherings, I think.

"Yes, I'll do it! Please, put her down! Please, Pineheart. I'm sorry for throwing you out, please!" Moonsplash begged, tears now flowing down her cheeks. Snowkit squirmed in Pineheart's grasp, and her eyes were leaking out tears.

"Hmmm… I like watching you like this, begging for something. Something that I have. I'll think about it," Pineheart mewed, laughing as he saw the queen's face fall.

"Pineheart, put the kit down! It's wrong to make a queen watch her kit on the verge of death! Please! Would you want this to be our kits?" Fawnfeather mewed, her voice stern. Moonsplash glanced at the she-cat, noticing how beautiful she really was. She had soft pale brown tabby fur with a white chest, underbelly, muzzle, and tail tip and wide, sympathetic golden eyes. Pineheart turned towards his mate, snorting at her sympathy.

"Trust me, Fawnfeather. I am doing this for our kits. This is the only way that ragged she-cat will stay out of the way," Pineheart mewed simply, his face showing no emotion.

Smiling, he unsheathed his claws, and slit open the tiny kit's throat. He dropped her, letting her small body hit the ground with a dull thud as the innocent kit wailed. Blood poured out of her throat, staining the rocks with crimson red. She twitched twice, fighting for her life, but as she looked up at the open sky, she let out her last, raspy breath, and laid still, her once sparkly green eyes blank.

Moonsplash said nothing, staring at her kit. Fawnfeather gasped, as she turned towards her mate, and began to shout at him for murdering a kit. Moonsplash heard none of this, as she gazed at her once bubbly kit, lying dead on the rocks. Dead. Her pride and joy. Dead. Moonsplash threw her head back and cried out into the night. Pineheart purred, turning back to glance at the devastated queen, ignoring the yowling of his mate.

"Now you see, Moonsplash. I have had my revenge. One of your precious kits have died, and now…. now, I will kill them all… one by one. Rippleclaw, Ashkit, and Dovekit. Then, after all of that… I suppose you'll the last of all, killed in cold blood," Pineheart mewed, his claws unsheathing once more.

Pure, true hatred burned through Moonsplash's veins, setting her pelt on fire. She turned towards Pineheart, and she saw him flinch back, as he saw her eyes glistening with absolute disgust and repulsion.

"No, Pineheart. You have achieved nothing… Nothing at all. True, you have destroyed me. True, I treated you horribly after you told me you had no feelings for me... but what you just did, was not revenge. My revenge…. my revenge will be bloodthirsty, evil, ruthless …. I don't care if I end up in the Dark Forest for this…. I'll see you there." With that, she leapt at his russet form.
