A/N: I was long overdue to write another Sasuhina story and someone had also requested me to write another after Dinner on the Dock. There's also the case that I'm once more not living up to my pen name, so now we have It Bothers Me. You can say it's a romance story or even a pre-romance. I just thought I would go with the route where Sasuke would be bothered by the fact there was one girl who wasn't pining for him. Hope you guys like it.
Disclaimer: Oh how I wish I owned Naruto. It's responsible for giving me some of my favorite anime openings as well as three of my overall favorite anime characters. Alas, I do not.
"You're not like most girls in our class," Hinata remembered those words, "You're not loud, you never grew your hair out, and you never tried to fight for my attention.
Hinata could also fidgeting, her face slightly red from embarrassment, and her mind completely confused as to why the great Sasuke Uchiha was talking to her. She wasn't apart of his fan club like the other girls - her crush on Naruto known between the girls in her class - and she knew she wasn't the most noticeable girl in the group. But here was Sasuke, talking to her after class as per his request. His eyes not holding the intensity he was known for had soften to something of curiosity while it was looking into her own lavender ones.
"At first I didn't mind since it meant just one less annoyance, but recently, the thought has been bothering me," he went on. His hand went out as if it was going to touch her face, which caused Hinata to flinch away, "I shouldn't be bothered."
"Eh...uh..."
Sasuke held his hand up to stop her. He wouldn't admit to feeling just as uncomfortable as Hinata was at the moment. To be honest when Sasuke asked Hinata to meet him, he didn't know what he wanted to say. He knew he just needed to tell her that her being so different was what was bothering him, and he didn't even know if it was a good thing or a bad thing.
He knew when he started noticing, his heart picked up just a bit, and he was glancing at her more than he wanted to admit. Whenever he was forced to listen to the girls argue over him - seriously, did they ever think arguing near him wouldn't annoy him? - he would just remember that there was one girl who wasn't outright annoying, and his nerves would calm down just a bit. He also felt a strange pang when he finally connected the dots and noticed Hinata's attention was towards the class loser, but he had stuffed the feeling away, thinking that it was only annoyance.
In a way, he also knew this was distracting him, which Sasuke knew wasn't a good idea if he was to complete his goals. He couldn't afford to think about what a girl thought about him. When he thought about it, maybe that's why he asked to meet her. Squash any questions he had.
"Why do you like Naruto?" he asked flatly, thinking he should get the full background. He knew most of the girls in his class liked him simply because he was at the top of his class and his looks also had a part to play in it - he was seriously trying to not brag. Naruto was at the bottom of the class, and the constant pranks and screw ups that drag the class down with him had labelled him as obnoxious with everyone, so it was a mystery as to why Hinata liked him.
Hinata's eyes widened before turning away, her face becoming several shades of red, and her thumbs participating in that habit of twiddling with each other. Sasuke thought the gesture would have been cute if he didn't know the question that triggered it.
"Sasuke-san...f-forgive me for being rude, b-but I don't think t-that is none of your business," she nearly whispered.
Sasuke scowled, not exactly being told off, and also having to realize that this was an expected answer. Well, an expected answer if it was from another girl.
"Also, S-Sasuke-san, I-I can't answer your question," she went on. She still wasn't exactly looking Sasuke in the eye and the red in her cheeks had went down a few shades. Sasuke didn't like that expression, "I-I have to go..."
Sasuke didn't even try to stop her when she stepped beside him and literally ran out the room. When he heard the door slide shut, he let out a frustrated huff, and plopped down in a nearby seat. He stayed there until his stomach reminded him that he skipped lunch, and went home, completely unsatisfied.
The next morning, Sasuke didn't come in until class nearly started, his temper short, and in no mood to deal with anyone. He took a seat in between Shino and Shikamaru, the only two people Sasuke knew wouldn't annoy him. Only when Iruka-sensei came in and started class did he notice Hinata was a few rows directly ahead of him, and it was too late for him to switch seats.
Inwardly growling, Sasuke just tried to focus on whatever Iruka was saying. He was able to do it before. Just focus on the teacher at the front and not the girl who was keeping her head down. That was easy with his eyes, but his head had another plan and kept replaying the words Hinata said to him yesterday.
He knew it wasn't exactly his business as to why Hinata liked Naruto, who was skipping class again by the way, but it always bothered him and it was distracting him, just like everything else about Hinata was. When Sasuke thought about it, Hinata the way she was, was making her even more annoying than other girl in the class.
His blood boiling more and more as the day went on, Sasuke was relieved when the class was dismissed for lunch, and he just wanted to get out of there. Glaring at any girl that tried to ask if he wanted to have lunch with them, Sasuke left the class, having lost his appetite a while back.
When he stepped outside and decided to just walk around the courtyard, Sasuke just tried to relax his nerves, thinking he was definitely switching seats when lunch was over. He must have not been alert, however, when he ran into someone and stumbled back a few steps while hearing an "omph" from someone.
"Watch where you're..." he stopped when he saw it was Hinata who he knocked over. She was hurrying to pick up her bento box while stammering out an apology. When she stood and apologized once more, this time coming with a bow, Sasuke held his hand up to stop her, a frustrated breath coming out as he realized that he was going to say something he thought he never would be saying to anyone.
"I'm sorry," he mumbled.
"Eh?"
"I'm sorry," he repeated and not liking it. Letting out another frustrated breath, Sasuke turned his head away so he was facing the academy, "Look, you're right, it wasn't my business, it's just...just that it was seriously bothering me. You weren't like the other girls, and I just wanted to know everything I can, so maybe I can figure out why it was bothering so much."
He thought he explained this yesterday, but Sasuke didn't bring that up. Instead he just looked back towards Hinata who had this absolutely adorable look on her face - wide eyes, red cheeks, and lower lip being bitten. Sasuke couldn't help but be a bit smug that he was the one that caused this to happen.
"I-I see..." she whispered and looked down at her feet, "A-Apology accepted."
"Good," Sasuke said and turned on his feet and walked away.
Not how he planned on that going, but even Sasuke knew that if he was going to find out eventually, he had to get back in Hinata's good graces. Maybe next time he asked her to meet him, she'll tell him. Maybe, just maybe, he had to take her out to lunch or something for that happen. Sasuke's cheeks reddened but a smirk grew at the thought.
A/N: Not as long as I wanted it to be, but I just go where my muse wants to go. Tell me what you think.
