An hour since Logan and Gorya's fight.
Veronica knocks on the penthouse suite over and over again until there is an answer. The door opens and the one and only Dick Casablancas stands in front of her.
"Is Logan here?" She asks with tears in her eyes.
"Hey Ronnie, Come to shout at me some more?"
"Dick, I'm really not in the mood to deal with you right now okay? so can you just tell me where Logan is, I really need to speak to him. 'I'm also not wanting to be having the break down that I'm about to have in front of Dick Casablancas,' she thinks.
He notices tears on Veronica's cheeks and then he realizes that in all the years he's known her, he's never seen her like this before. Even before Lily died, he never saw her so vulnerable and scared. The new Veronica is stronger and tougher so something was up.
"He'll be back in about half an hour. Do you want to wait inside?" He moves out of the way of the door and she steps in. He looks down at Veronica and notices a red mark on her face. He point her face and comments, "Ronnie, Please don't tell me you got in to a cat fight and I missed it."
She looks at him, confused for a moment until she remembers and puts her hand to her face.
"Oh god, I forgot," Veronica paused for a moment, "Hmm… Could I use the bathroom for a minute."
"Yeah."
'Okay this is weird. Dick's being nice to me.' Veronica thought.
Once in the bathroom she searches her bag for make-up. She has a lot to tell Logan and she doesn't want the first thing for him to see to be the marks on her face. She walks out and sees Dick getting a drink from the mini bar. She moves to sit down.
"Do you want a drink of water or anything?" Dick asks.
"Something with a bit of a kick would be good," Veronica responds.
"Okay, Are you going to tell me why you're here?" He pours and hands her a drink.
"I need to tell Logan that I didn't mean what I said," Veronica answers.
Without missing a beat, Dicks casually adds, "How about you tell me how you got the mark on your face, that has magically gone away now."
At that, Veronica got defensive. "I'm not going to tell you because one it isn't any of you business and two why the hell do you care!?"
Dick frowns, "I don't know but for some reason I do. I know we haven't always been the best of friends. I treated you like crap a lot of the times, but I never wanted you to get hurt."
"You have a really funny way of showing it!" Veronica scoffed.
Dick shrugs, unbothered, "It's not just you I'm like that to. It's most people. I say what I think. I don't really have a filter."
Veronica frowns and shrugs before saying,"Well… I think I'm going to need another drink."
Two more drinks later and Veronica's asleep in the living room with a blanket on her.
The door opens and Dick jumps up from the chair he is sitting in and pulls a very confused Logan back out of the room again.
"Dude, what the hell?" Logan shouts.
Dick prompts him to be quieter, saying, "Shh… I just need you to be filled in on all the details before you go in there."
"Details on what?" Logan demands, "what have you done? Are you married again or something?"
"What? Dude, no. If anything, I've done good. Which is something I don't get to say a lot… I could get used to this actually," Dick returns.
Annoyed and impatient, Logan says, "Dick, Get to the point."
"Okay," Dick began, "Ronnie came here to talk to you. She's in the room and she's fallen asleep now. She seemed really upset over something and at first I just thought it was the normal love roller-coaster you two live on but that's when I noticed something else…" Dick was giving Logan a look that was telling him he wasn't going to like the next bit.
Worried, Logan asks, "Noticed what?"
"Well, first I noticed she wasn't angry or witty or even Veronica really. She seemed more vulnerable and scared," Dick responds, "Then I noticed the mark on face."
Clenching a fist at his side, Logan demanded, "Who?!"
"I don't know," Dick admitted, "when I pointed it out, she went to the bathroom to put make-up over it. When I asked her, she said, and I quote, 'I'm not going to tell you because one it isn't any of you business and two why the hell do you care?' "
Taking this in, Logan responds, "Okay, I'm going to talk to her. Maybe you should hang out in you room for a bit… and Dick?"
"What?"
Logan clapped his friend on the shoulder, "Thank you. For looking after her."
Dick shrugs and gives Logan a half-grin, saying, "No problem, I've sort of got some making up to do with Ronnie anyway."
Dick disappears off to his bedroom.
Logan sits next to where Veronica's sleeping and looks at how peaceful and beautiful she looks. He sees a light shadow on her left cheek that she tried to cover up. Just then she opens her eyes and he sees her look confused for a second before remembering where she is. She looks up and sees him.
"Logan?" Veronica says questioningly before jumping into his arms.
"It's me, I'm here now, you're safe," he holds her tight.
They sit for a while not saying anything. Just holding each other because they both needed to know the other one is there.
Logan spoke first, "Veronica, you know you need to tell me what happened to you, right? Because I won't be able to relax until I know you're okay."
"I know and I will tell you everything," she said, "I just need to tell you some other stuff first okay?"
"Okay, go ahead," Logan said, indicating he was ready to listen.
Drawing in a deep breath, Veronica begins, "I'm sorry about what I said yesterday about not wanting you in my life anymore. I didn't mean it and it is never going to be the case… I understand more why you did what you did now. I'm not saying I think it was right but I understand. I think I would jump to conclusions if someone went out of their way to hurt you as well," she takes another breath and continues, "The only reason I went out with Piz in the first place was to get over you. Seeing you with Parker everyday… I wanted to have a normal life and I thought that Piz was the answer to that… it's the same thing I did with Duncan when I should have stuck by you… I'm so sorry, Logan, can you ever forgive me?" By now, tears are falling down Veronica's face. She only notices when Logan wipes them away.
Logan responded soothingly, "You have nothing to be sorry about, if anyone does it's me. I shouldn't have jump to conclusions with beating up Piz. I should have come to you first," he said. He could now see the bruise on her face more clearly because of her tears. "What happened to you? And what happened to you and Piz? I don't think he would be too pleased with you being here."
"Yeah about that…" Veronica began, "After the fight with you and Gorya, me and Piz needed to talk. I couldn't just pretend the look that me and you shared meant nothing. We walked back to his dorm without saying a word to each other. Once in the room, Piz sat on his bed and I sat on Wallace's - "
"Do I really want to hear this?" Logan interrupted.
She laughs a little and nods, "Yeah you need to. I started to tell him that I still had feelings for you and I didn't want to hurt him more then I already had and we needed to break up. I thought he took it okay until I went to leave and he stopped me. He grabbed my arm and wouldn't let go."
She showed him the mark on her mark and it made Logan want to be sick. That someone hurt the love of his life like that and he wasn't there to stop it just killed him.
Veronica continued, saying then, "He saw that I was scared and he said something that I will never forgiven him for…"
"what?" Logan asked.
"Trust me, Logan, you don't want to know," Veronica said firmly.
Logan shook his head and responded, "No. Like you said, I need to know everything."
Veronica sighed and began again, "Okay, he wanted to know how I could be scared of him when I went out with you so long. At some point I must have been scared that you would hit me. I said of course not, that I knew you would never do such a thing. He wouldn't stop talking and saying these horrible things about me being a slut and you just wanting to get into me pants and not really caring about me. Then he said something about you being just like your Dad… so I punched him in the face."
She gave him a little smile and said, "I know none of that's stuffs true, Logan. You. are. nothing. like. your. father. Okay?"
"Yeah, I know," Logan said quietly, brushing his fingers through her hair, "and you know that I care about you more life itself, right?"
She nodded with a smile, which made him smile. Logan's smile then faded when he remembered that at some point in this story she had to get the bruise on her face so he asked, "What happened next?"
"Well, after I punched him, he returned the favor, as you can see," she responded, pointing to her marked face, "Then he pushed me onto the bed. I'm not sure want he was going to do but he didn't get a chance to do anything more. I grabbed my taser out of my bag, tasered him and I ran. What scares me the most is that he just had this personality change on me. I never thought I would be scared of him like I was…Logan, I know you're going to want to do something about him but can… can it wait? I really don't want to be alone right now or be anywhere near him anytime soon."
He hated to see her like this so he agreed, "I'm not going anywhere. Okay? If I see him, though, all bets are off. I just want to keep you safe and make you happy. That's my goal in life, Veronica."
Veronica smiled tearily, "You need a new goal because mission complete. I'm always happy when I'm with you and I feel the safest when I'm with you too. That's saying a lot, too, because I have an overprotective Dad that is licensed to carry a fire arm."
They both laugh.
Just then, Dick's door opened and he rushed out, heading towards the main door. When he heard Veronica's voice, it shouted him back.
"Dick, before you go, I just want to say thank you. You could have just told me to get lost but you didn't. You where there for me like a friend should be."
He smiled at her and Logan and said, "Like I said to Logan: I have a lot of making up to do. Do us all a favor, though, would ya? Be careful with Logan. He's a little girl when it comes to relationships with you."
They all laugh and with that, Dick turns and leaves. All Dick could think was that he was going to make that Piz dude wish he never held a hand on Ronnie.
