Tears started to blur Arizona's vision, just barely blocking out the image of Callie walking out of the room. She begins to take a deep breath, thinking that maybe if she just closed her eyes and cleared her mind, her Calliope would be right back on the couch. Telling her back that she too needed her anchor, and wanted to make this work. But when she opened them, the door clicked, and she then realized that was the last time she would be able to be that close to her wife ever again. Just barely audible, "Calliope," fell from her quivering lips. And finally, that burning tear fell, landing in a pool on the top of her left hand, breaking Arizona from her trance. Slowly, the blonde stood up, smoothed down her blazer, and cleared her throat, "Well, I believe this will our last session. Umm, thank you." Arizona snatched her purse and practically ran out the room.

A MONTH LATER...
Callie waited impatiently at the nurse's desk on the Peds floor. Arizona had paged her to meet her there, but is now five minutes late. Anything that irked the Latina more than people asking her why she wasn't "back in the saddle" yet, was anyone being late. Finally, she saw the blonde whirl around the corner. Her cheeks were a little flushed and she seemed out of breath. For some reason, Callie thought that was odd. Arizona wasn't one to run, like anywhere. She also noticed that a few strands of hair were out of place, and suddenly a shock of jealousy coursed through her veins. As Arizona approached Callie, she shook her head and began rubbing her temples. She knew she shouldn't be having those kind of thoughts, especially now after everything..
" Calliope? Are you okay?"
Callie came out of her daze, and locked eyes with the blonde. 'God I've missed those,' she thought.
"Uhh, yah I'm fine. Why did you page me here?" She watched as Arizona's eyes trailed down her lab coat. They hadn't really spoke to each other since their last session, except for when they traded off with Sofia. Which is why Callie was a little confused to why Arizona paged her.
The blonde shoved her hands into the pockets of her lab coat, and dragged her eyes away from her Latina, "I umm, was wondering if you could pick up Sofia early on Sunday. I have plans that umm, I can't really reschedule." Arizona gazed up to look at the brunette, and noticed that her brow was beginning to furrow.

"Yeah, sure... Yeah, yeah you know, that's umm no problem at all." A huge knot began to form in Callie's throat, she never really gave much thought about how she felt if she knew Arizona was dating again. She never really gave herself any time to just grieve. She left that day thinking she knew what she really wanted. For her and Arizona to experience true happiness, even if that meant it wasn't with each other. But all she can think lately is that maybe, just maybe, her happiness was Arizona. That she really didn't waste all of it, that it was still there. She just had to find it, again.

"Are you sure? I mean I guess I can take her with me." Callie's head shot up, "Or maybe you both can come with me. Unless you think that wouldn't be a good idea. You know, I don't want to confuse Sofia. Or jump to any conclusions, or continue to go on a crazy rant.. Like I am now.." Arizona started giggling, and bit her bottom lip.
The last thing that Callie thought she would say was, "I would love too," but it escaped her mouth so fast she couldn't stop it even if she tried.
"That's really great," the blonde got brave and took a small step forward, "but you don't even know what i'm doing?" She whispered just loud enough for Callie to hear. The Latina's heart began to thump in her chest, she hadn't felt this way in a long time. It felt good, and she liked it.
"Arizona..." she began breathlessly.
"Yes, Calliope?" Taking yet another step towards the brunette. Now only inches apart, Callie could smell the intoxicating smell that was purely Arizona. Realizing what she was about to do, Callie grabbed her chart and started to walk away. Arizona fixed her scrub top, and released the breath she had been holding, regretting what she had just done.
"Zona?" Callie practically shouted when she saw her loves face fall, "Just call me tonight and we'll figure something out. Okay?"
The blondes eyes lit up, and all her fears fled. A smile crept across her face and all she could manage was a simple nod. For once in a very long time, they both looked forward to going home.

Arizona scheduled as many surgeries as she could that day, just to keep her busy. When Callie told her to call her later that night, hope spread throughout her heart. She kept trying to remind herself that she shouldn't get her hopes up. It was just a phone call to talk about Sunday, nothing more. But why didn't Callie just ask if she could text her or even talk about it right then and there? No, instead she wanted Arizona to call her, at night, after Sofia was asleep. Just their encounter in front of the nurses desk was intense, and brought back so many feelings and memories. They didn't even touch each other and it set Arizona's nerve endings on fire, a feeling she thought she would never feel again.

Looking at her watch she realized that it was already 9:30, making it an on-call room kind of night. She took the elevator to the third floor and went straight to her favorite room. It was the same one her and Callie had ever shared together, and it was the only one she would sleep in from that moment on. Taking out her phone, she slowly dialed Callie's number but couldn't work up the nerve to actually press send. Suddenly, Sex on Fire by Kings of Leon started to play which made the blonde jump and throw her phone across the room. "Jesus Christ!" Grabbing her chest, she began to giggle. Remembering that Callie was the one who changed it to that song when Arizona finally let down her guard and seduced her wife after the plane crash.

"Hello?" The blonde answered still giggling.

"Not even two minutes of talking and you're already laughing at me?" Hearing Arizona laugh again, warmed her heart.

"Haha, and if I was, what would you do to me?" Instantly covering her mouth, and rolling her eyes at herself. 'Bad habits die hard' she thought.

Callie chuckled to herself, she didn't think the conversation would heat up this fast. Knowing Arizona though, it wasn't intentional. She played with the thought of going with it, but decided it probably wasn't for the best. At least not yet. "Umm, so about Sunday? I know I kind of just invited myself, or you invited me but if you don't want me there I completely understand..." For some reason going off on tangents about nothing has been there go to move when they spoke to each other. But when one did it, the other found it extremely adorable and couldn't resist.

"Calliope, stop talking!... I want you to come. I mean if you want to come apartment shopping with me..." She could tell her words cut through the phone and practically stab the other woman. "I think it's only fair if you approve of where Sofia will be spending her time when she's with me." Callie was still quiet on the other end, "Then, maybe we could grab something to eat afterwards?" It was a long shot since she basically just threw the fact that she may be moving on with her life, without Callie. But she knew she had to try.

"You're... you're moving out of Karev's?.. I thought uhh, I thought you liked it there? Being so close to the hospital and all..." Callie felt like her heart had been ripped out and stomped on several times. Who knew a simple sentence could hurt so badly.

"Yeah, Jo and Karev act like horny teenagers all damn day. Sofia doesn't need to see that when she's with me." All she could hear was deep breaths, like Callie was trying to calm herself before she spoke. "It won't be home though... No matter where I sleep, it just... it's not home anymore," hoping that Callie would get the hint of what she was trying to say.

The Latina shut her eyes for a moment. She lived in the house they bought together. The house that was supposed to change everything, leave all bad history behind and start a new bright future. Except the joke was on them, and instead of happiness it turned their lives into a dark and twisted mess. It wasn't her home anymore either. "I know.. Arizona? "

"Callie?"

"Do you remember when you asked if I missed you?" Taking a final deep breath she continued, "There isn't a day that goes by that I don't... and some days ... it is enough." A tear escaped and made it's journey down Callie's cheek. She didn't know why she was saying this, but felt the need to do so.

"Oh god... Calliope..." The blondes head was now in her hands, knees pushed as tightly as she could get them to her chest. Silently sobbing, trying her hardest to not let her wife hear. These were the words she has wanted to hear for a month now, but instead of making her heart flutter they just made it hurt. More than watching Callie walk out on her. It was a good hurt, she was finally feeling something other than emptiness and misery.

"Arizona? Are you still there?" She could hear tiny sniffles coming from the other end, 'Did I say something wrong?' Callie thought. 'Maybe I took it too far. Maybe it was too soon' All these thoughts started fighting for space in her mind. Battling it out as if this entire phone call was just one big joke. One big joke that was on her. But finally Arizona spoke up, "Yes, yes I'm still here…Callie, I don't know what you want me to say here… I…"

"No. Don't say anything. Not now. I don't even know what I'm saying…" At that moment Callie contemplated whether or not to hang up right then and there, but just hearing Arizona breathe was enough. Knowing Arizona was still there was enough to keep holding on. Everything about that woman made Callie smile from ear to ear, but there was too much heartache and pain to just wipe the slate clean. Oh but how she wanted to, to just start over, be the loving and carefree Callie and Arizona again. Was that even possible now?

Arizona unhooked one arm from her legs and grabbed the pillow next to her. Placing it in between her and the wall, her back up against it. This is how she slept now, no matter where she was, that pillow acted as her Calliope. But it was never warm enough, or it didn't smell like Callie anymore. She wore the same t-shirt to bed almost every night, because it was the last thing she grabbed when she left the house that final night. And it just so happened to be the Latina's. But no matter how far away her wife got from her, she held on to the hope and faith she had left inside. When Jackson and April lost their baby, she lit a candle. Not only for them, but to somehow save what little she and Calliope had left.

"Okay.." Said the blonde in a faint whisper. "I'll wait.. Can we.. can we just act normal on Sunday? Can we promise not to fight or act like a separated couple? …I mean if you still want to come." She shut her eyes tight, hoping her loves next words weren't going to be what she dreaded most.

"I'll pick you and Sofia up around 2, Okay?" Silence once again crept through the phones. "But I think that we should have Meredith or Karev watch her for a couple hours.. I think it might be time to settle all of this once and for all.."

"Me too."

"Goodnight Arizona."

"Goodnight Calliope."

When they both hung up and looked at their screens, I love you trickled from their lips. Hoping that just maybe, the other would still be feeling the same way.
