Miyu furiously slammed her thick textbook down on the wooden table

Miyu furiously slammed her thick textbook down on the wooden table. "This is impossible!"

"Calm down, will you?" Kanata said. "You're scaring Luu."

Sure enough, Luu was staring at her curiously. "Mama?"

She took the alien baby into her arms. "Oh, Luu-kun, you're lucky you don't have to study Chemistry."

"He will, if we return to Planet Otto," Wanya said. "It's even harder because Otto's periodic table contains 827 elements."

"Is there a planet with no periodic table, then?" Miyu sighed. "If so, I'll move there so I can stop studying this chemistry junk that I don't need anyway."

"You just need to focus," Kanata told her.

Wanya cradled Luu in his arms and said, "We'll leave you two alone so you can study."

Miyu plopped down next to Kanata and sighed. "Kanata, you're really good at this, so it's easy for you to say. But I'm not smart in that kind of stuff. I'm an embarrassment to my genius parents."

"Don't say that. Tell you what, I'll help you study. What exactly don't you understand about this topic?"

"How about everything. Stoichiometry sucks."

"To be able to do stoichiometry, you must learn balancing." He wrote down some equations on his notebook and started explaining them one by one.

"But, why did the subscript change?" Miyu asked.

Frustrated, Kanata snapped, "Because that's balancing, stupid! You've asked that question so many times!"

She flared up at his irritated tone. "I didn't ask you to tutor me, you know."

"Well, it's really quite difficult to get anything through that thick skull of yours!"

"I can't believe this! If all you're going to do is insult me, then I'd rather fail Chemistry!" Her eyes sparkled with unshed tears as she turned back to her book.

Kanata sat stock-still, ashamed of his words. "Oi, Miyu."

She ignored him and kept her eyes on the book.

Kanata made all sorts of gulping noises. "I'm sorry, okay?" he finally said.

She looked at him. "I'm sorry, too. I should have known that I asked it many times already. I guess I really am stupid…" She hung her head.

"Aw, Miyu, you're not stupid…" He moved closer and lifted her chin. Only then did he become aware of their closeness. He could feel the heat of her stare pierce his soul.

Her soft-looking lips were mere inches away, waiting, poised…

Kanata moved closer, closing the distance between their lips…

"Are you done studying?" Wanya cheerfully asked, entering. The two teens quickly pulled themselves into a more distanced position, saying, "Almost…"

And when Kanata's and Miyu's eyes met, they sparkled, as if to say, Almost…

As I was writing this, the love of my life texted me. How's that for "inspiration"?
