Title: Enough

I am glad that he loves me as much as I love him. But sometimes, it makes
me wonder…if it's enough to hold him. The thought rang in her head
like a knife that stabbed her being.
"Garu?"
There it was, his usual aloof grin that said nothing's wrong. Better yet, don't
ask. Gareas became less of what he was before. He was
less arrogant, less hostile, less gruff, less grumpy, less talkative, less
playful, just less. The change was hardly noticeable by many except for the few
close friends. As far as all the rest knew, Gareas Elidd was the raucous and proud pilot of Eeva Leena.
Leena walked closer and gave the young man a quick
embrace. The act was returned in kind before he took a step back. "What's with
the face?"
She only gave him a look that said all her worries for him.
"I think Eeva Leena needs
some checking, don't you think?" His voice, though light, was laced with a tone
that Leena knew best not to bother with. Nonetheless,
she tried albeit futilely.
Eventually, she headed back to the hangar where all the Ingrids
were. The man she once knew so well and hopefully still did,
now reminded her of the Ingrid. She stared at Eeva Leena, standing there in her silent glorious form.
Domineering, radiating with solemn protectiveness and the utter lack of emotion
on the metallic face reflected that of the man's she left a few minutes ago.
Her eyes strayed to the Ingrid beside Eeva Leena, Luhma Klein. That was
then. Now, called Reneighd Klein.
Sadly, there were things that only the Pilots understood. No matter how close a
Repairer was to the Pilot, there always lay a gap that only a fellow Pilot
would be able to fill. And the one that held it together, just left.
To lose one so young in a war crippled her and the rest of them. And to lose
another, in a war that needed no weapons --- her heart ached.
