In the spirit of creating semi-pointless one-shots, THIS was born. I had a random thought when *The Gift*spoiler* Byron said that Celia was a Lost One (though I'm not sure that she is, because she rescues Wisty in the end of the book..?), so, THIS was born. If you're gonna read it, you might-as-well enjoy it before I decide to delete it

..I might be joking about that….and I might not….. ;)

and now presenting:

The Lost Ones

Did they use to be Half-Lights? Maybe. Could they leave these accursed Shadowlands? Possibly, if only a human would show them the way. . .

They were there, but then they were. . .not. Barely existing, always on the edge, longing only to leave their prison. (Or to eat human flesh. That was cool too.)

They envied the Half-Lights, even though some would join them in as their souls corrupted, and they saw the uselessness of fighting when you're already dead.

Ah, the Half-Lights. The ones who persisted in the Shadowlands, the ones who retained some of their unbearable innocence. The ones that were almost the exact opposites of the Lost Ones themselves. The ones who somehow managed to retain their dignity in the hellhole they resided in. They were the ones that the humans chose to talk to, and the ones that were probably gaining all of that secret information that the Lost Ones longed for.

Was this it, then? Was their whole existence in life leading up to this…this half life in the Shadowlands? Is that all that they had left?

Before the New Order, back when there had been culture, and art, people had also had religion. They'd had what they thought was some inking of their afterlife. But then the New Order came and took that all away, casting all of the departed ones into the Shadowlands. That's all that was left for anyone now.

So, in those rare moments of insight, the Lost Ones briefly pondered the fact that maybe…just maybe…those humans were right in rebelling, and fighting for a new cause. Maybe they could be the ones who found a way out of this half life.

But until then….

Well, the Lost Ones always did like the taste of fresh human.

Yay! It's over! (I know, it was short...) Now I can write another one-shot...
