A/N: Was chatting about Enterprise headcanons and I had to write this one. Considered AU because Trip lives and T'Pol is a member of the same family/clan as Sarek, Spock, and Amanda.
"I must head out for a short time," T'Pol said, passing Trip the slightly groggy Spock, who had just woken up from a nap. "Would you mind watching him on your own?"
Cradling Spock, Trip grinned first at him, before looking up to meet his wife's eyes. She already knew the answer before she asked. Lifting the hand not supporting the baby, and holding out his index and middle fingers, he said, "Oh course, darling." As she returned the finger kiss, her hand looking much younger than his, he added with all too human drama, "But I will miss you the moment we are parted."
T'Pol just raised an unimpressed eyebrow in return, gentle humor added to the constant current of love that was the base of their bond, before looking down at Spock. "You would be most wise to not follow in my or your father's footsteps and instead find yourself a logical mate," she instructed him seriously.
Spock cooed in response, a smile coming to his face. "Ah, sport, don't listen to her," Trip turned his back to T'Pol, though she knew he was not mad at her, and strode into the living room. "What you really shouldn't do is make my or your mother's mistake. Find yourself someone who will never utter the damned word logic."
T'Pol stared after them for a moment, before turning and heading on her way. Trip settled as the front door closed and set Spock on his knee, the half-Vulcan baby facing him. The boy's now fully awake eyes on settled on his honorary grandfather's face.
"Now," Trip settled his tired body against the couch (a human one, much more comfy than the Vulcan equivalent and ordered by Amanda while she was pregnant). "Do you want to know what makes starships fly?"
Spock cooed again, smiled fading into a focused interest. Trip knew the boy was too young to understand much of what was said, even with his more progressive mental maturity, but he started explaining the ins and outs of warp drive anyway. Slowly Spock's smile came back, as his wonder grew with the excitement and passion in Trip's voice.
And that was how T'Pol came back to find them, about an hour later, and she took an illogical moment to just watch the two interact. When Trip caught her eye, she came and joined them on the couch. With that, the three let the rest of the afternoon pass them lazily by.
