Energize

It's been a little weird the past few days… With Roxas, that is.

He's been zoned out more than usual, and a little slow on the uptake - not that he's always been fast. He's lost skating tournament after tournament, and he doesn't laugh at the inside jokes and petty conflicts anymore.

Hayner had been loitering outside the station for hours, just watching, waiting over Twilight Town and waiting for something to happen. He wondered if Olette was still doing homework, or if Pence was finally out of the library (and done researching the Writing Styles of the seventeen hundreds)…and he wondered where Roxas had gone.

Hayner let out a deep sigh. He ran a hand through his thick blond hair before groaning at the wave of boredom that had suddenly reared its ugly head.

Something had to change; something needed to just HAPPEN-

The sound of wood splitting startled him. He spun around and watched as a small, blue wheel rolled, tapping gently onto his foot and clacking softly against the stones as it fell. He looked up to find the remains of some kind of skateboard, shattered against the pavement.

The scream was what made him look up from the woodpile and into the orange sky. It echoed against the silence of the city until Hayner pinpointed a figure moving around on the tower.

He glanced back down at the board before shuffling off into the station. He ran into the exit door and flew up the thirty flights of stairs, bursting through the last door and up a few more steps before immerging onto the tower.

Hayner walked cautiously around the corner of the building, finding the other blond boy with his hands through his hair in painful fists and his eyes screwed shut and wet, sitting on the edge of the tower, trying to muffle his cries.

The older boy sat down next to Roxas silently, watching him dry his eyes with his sleeves childishly and hold in his sobs. Roxas looked up at the older boy after a moment, his eyes puffy and red, and sniffled once.

"I'm nothing, Hayner."

Hayner glanced down at the younger boy, blinking once and raising an eyebrow, "You're some-"

"No Hayner, I-I'm not a somebody, I'm just nothing, a Nobody!" He stood up, towering over the brown-eyed boy, "T-these things are happening to me, telling me-"

Hayner stood next, "You are somebody Roxas, you are important! Don't let anything tell you otherwise than that!"

"No, Hayner, you-"

"I understand just fine, Roxas." He grabbed both of the younger boy's shoulders, pulling him closer, watching more tears fall down his cheeks.

"You are a somebody," He swiped a tear away with an index finger, "Don't let anyone ever tell you anything other than that. They're full of bullshit - what do they know?"

Roxas sniffled quietly, sighing shakily and looking up at the older boy, "Okay, Hayner… Okay."

He didn't mind the hand snaking in his hair and pulling him closer, and he didn't mind that their lips touched for one, two, three, four seconds before he felt their foreheads touch and both of them sighed.

"You're someone to me, Roxas."

"…And that's all that matters."
