May I have this fuse?

We need more JaspEye.

The sun was shining brightly, warming that out of the way, beach side town known to all as Beach City. The spring breezes blew lightly, harolding the summer soon to come. It was on this day, Jasper, stood taking in the view near the lighthouse. She was not alone however as the Ruby, the Steven liked to call 'Eyeball' decided to accompany her on her purposeless walk.

It was also here in this spot, on this day, on this planet, the Quartz that Could, found herself caught off guard by a simple little Ruby. Jasper stood rooted to the spot, staring wide-eyed at the offered hand. The Ruby said she remembered Jasper, from the war, that she admired her strength and masculine beauty. It would be a honor to fuse with a gem as perfect as she.

"Jasper, will you fuse with me? The fusion Garnet says there's nothing like it in the whole galaxy" Oh how that tiny red hand tempted her so.

"It's a free planet ain't it?" the little voice in her mind reasoned. That was true. Here there was no Agate to yell or whip her, no laws, or Yellow Diamond to order her around or tell her no. This Ruby, wanted to fuse with her because her-not just for power-but because she truly wanted to. Eyeball wanted to stay, so why did she feel such a heavy weight in her chest? This was what she wanted wasn't it? Here this gem was offering herself on a silver platter, so why was her hand trembling so bad when she reached to take it?

"You know full well why," the little voice sneered "what good has ever come with us fusing? Every time the situation has gone from bad to worse. Lapis tricked us, and dragged us into the depths to torment us, and that filthy mindless mutt turned us into a monster! Nothing good comes from fusing!"

"But what about this one? She wants to stay".

"Then you know what to do".

"No...thanks though".

Eyeball's single eye furrowed in confusion, and hurt. For one happy moment she thought Jasper was going to take her hand, only to have it gently batted away.

What did she do wrong? Was she being too forward? Garnet told her to be open and honest. Perhaps Jasper didn't like the idea of fusing with a plain old Ruby like her.

As the Jasper she loved began to leave, Eyeball swallowed roughly and managed to find her voice. She had to know why, if she knew maybe she could change whatever the larger gem found undesirable?

"I...Is it me?"

These words froze Jasper on the spot, but only for a brief second before continuing on.

"No...I just can't. Fusion is just a cheap tactic to make weak gems stronger" Jasper gritted her teeth. The Ruby would believe her, heck if she tried hard enough she almost could believe herself, "I'm done", it was for the best.

Nobody I fuse with, ever wants to stay.

And there we have it! Please leave a review, and suggestions are welcome.
