"Come out Neville! Come out Neville!"

"LEAVE ME ALONE!"

"COME OUT NEVILLE!"

Jeremy Welsh shook his head in disgust at the grisly scene before him. The three dead vampires stared up at the dark sky with unblinking cloudy eyes. Jeremy piled them on top of each other and lit a small fire beneath them.

"Jesus Christ, I'm amazed these thing's damn smell isn't enough to bring all of Annapolis down on me. Shit, its like visiting a dump thats only filled with dead, shit filled rotten eggs!"

Jeremy's companion, a small redheaded man named Walter chuckled at the statement.

"Only if that dump has been left in the sun for around three years."

The lighthearted moon seemed to darken when they heard a rustle in the bushes. The two men immediately turned to face the new threat. Walter cocked his Benelli 12 gauge and pointed it at the bush. Jeremy pulled out a long metal stick sharpened at one to give it the impression of a spear and gently prodded into the bush. A low growl was heard and a gray vampire jumped out at Jeremy. In a few seconds the creatures was dead, its limp body dangling from the spear.

Jeremy wiped the sweat from his forehead with a sigh.

"We've got to get to Fort Liberty by tomorrow night, otherwise were screwed."

The two men quickly got their gear in order and moved a short distance to a cabin they found that was relatively close to their destination; or at least close to what the map said was their destination.

_______________

When it was Walter's turn to sleep, his mind drifted back to the fateful day.

He was spending another miserable night in the basement of a house he had cleared earlier that day. He thought there were no humans around. Thats when he heard them. The dull rustling sounds they made when they dragged their cold bodies across grass. One of the called out, "Come out Neville!" Walter was terrified, he thought he was discovered so he packed his things in a hurry and moved through a small tunnel he found. When he was a safe distance away he could still faintly hear the creature calling.

"Come out Neville!"

And then another voice, more familiar, more... human.

"LEAVE ME ALONE!"

"COME OUT NEVILLE!"

And then there was silence. Walter hurried through the winding turns of the sewer tunnels to find a safer place.

Whenever he thought of that day he felt uncomfortable. He knew he could've done more. He knew he should have done more, but he didn't. He ran, like the pussy he knew he was, deep in his heart, beneath all his bravado and stoicism.

Walter shut his eyes hard, he felt a few tears escape from his eyes. Hell, Jeremy couldn't see them, so he let them fall freely down his unshaven face. He thought it might help something.

It didn't.
