Mother-Son Date

"Are you ready Houston?" Jackie asked the little boy.

It was mother-son, father-daughter month in the Stokes house and today was Houston's turn to do something by himself with Jackie.

He told Jackie he wanted to go for a hamburger and French fries and then he wanted to play in the play area of the restaurant.

"Yeah." Houston said excitedly.

"Me go too?" Hundley asked sounding incredibly hopeful.

"No sweetie pie, it's Houston's turn, you got to go to the arcade with daddy, remember?"

"Yeah, but me go today too." Hundley insisted.

Jackie struggled not to laugh, Hundley was too funny.

"Hundley can come with us." Houston the ever so great big brother said.

"I want to go too." Karlie said, suddenly appearing in the kitchen.

"Me too." Sloan said.

She expected Houston to go bonkers.

"Yeah, come." He said, actually sounding excited about all of his brothers and sisters joining him.

"You are such a great big brother. Are you sure you want everyone to go sweetheart, it's ok if you want to go alone with mommy." Jackie told him.

"Yeah, I want them to come too."

"Ok, Nick, get ready we are going for a family lunch." Jackie told him.

When they got to the restaurant the play place was closed for repair.

Jackie felt so bad for Houston, his special date with mommy was turning into a disaster.

The look of disappointment on his little face when he saw they wouldn't be able to play was evident.

"I have an idea, why don't we go through the drive through instead and then take our lunch to the park, that way when you guys are done eating you can play on the playground. Nick suggested.

"Yay." All the kids cheered, clearly in love with that idea.

"Good idea daddy, you saved the day." Jackie told him, giving him a grateful look.

Nick gave her a look back that said crisis avoided.

They got their food and then Nick drove to the park.

After they had their picnic the kids had a blast playing, their giggles filled the park.

Jackie was all smiles when nearly two hours later the family returned home. It probably wasn't Houston had expected for his mother-son date but he had at least had a ton of fun!

The End!
