This is a teaser of the first chapter. I'm sorry for the wait. School is almost out and I plan on writing a lot more. I hope you enjoy this teaser. The whole chapter should be out very soon.
Sorry, again :(
I woke up to the sun shining through my blinds and birds chirping outside my window. I rub my hands over my eyes, and sit up. I swing my legs off the bed and slide into my hunting boots.
Worn leather that has molded to my feet. I put on trousers, a shirt, and put my hair in a fish-tail braid. I slowly make my way out of my room and down the stairs to the front door.
I quietly seek out the door, barely making a noise. I make my way to the meadow and the fence that still stands to this day.
The fence is never turned on anymore since the end of the rebellion. I got down on my stomach, slipping under a small opening in the fence.
I slip between a batch of tree, taking my bow and arrows from a hollowed tree and unwrap them from their waterproof covers slowly. I grab the knife that is also stored with my bow. I check the traps I set out a few days ago, and walked further into the woods.
"Hello," a voice says from behind. I spin around, loading an arrow in my bow and pointing it at the intruder.
"Lower your weapon," his hands go up in surrender.
"You startled me," I lower my bow to the ground.
He crosses his broad arms over his chest, "I apologize." I stare at him for a few more seconds.
"Catch anything this fine morning?" I shake my head.
I watch him pick up a rock; he then shot a look to me and threw the rock. A flock of birds shot out from the trees. I quickly drew my bow and arrow and shot one of the birds from the air.
"Nice shot," he tells me. I give him a small smile and walk to up the dead bird.
"Wait up Rue," Rue that is my name. Well my first name. My whole name is Rue Primrose Mellark. I have a little brother named Finnick Mellark and I love him with all my heart. My parents are Katniss and Peeta Mellark, the victors of the 74th Hunger Games.
My best friend is Skander Moseley, who is also my hunting partner. I still remember the first time I met him.
I just got back from hunting and I had my game sack over my shoulder by the Seam, when I was thrown backwards by a little girl. The girl was about seven-years old with light brown hair and blue eyes. She was small and very skinning.
It looked like she hadn't had food in days. Running up from behind her was a boy who looked at least nine-years old with dark brown almost black hair and startling blue eyes. He was tall but like this girl in front of me, he was very skinning.
When the boy reached us he told the little girl, "Lucy, don't ever run off like that."
Then he turned to me, "I'm sorry she ran into you."
I waved it off, "I don't think she did it on purpose." The little girl, Lucy, looked up at me with a small smile on her face. I gave her a smile back. The boy picked up my game sack and handed it to me.
"Here you go."
"Thank you," I smile at the boy.
"What is in the sack?" Lucy asked.
"Fresh meat that I hunted this morning," I told her.
Lucy's eyes went wide, "We haven't had fresh meat in ages." I looked down at her and back to the boy.
"It is true. My family isn't rich and we don't have enough money to buy food anymore," the boy told me. Then the boy and Lucy turned around and headed back the way they came from.
"Hold on," I yelled at them. They both turned around.
I grabbed one rabbit and two squirrels from inside my sack, "Here take this and eat them. No charge and my name is Rue. Rue Mellark."
The boy grabs the meat, "My name is Skander Moseley."
