Painting and Jealousy

Naru's P.O.V

I stared at the painting on my hands, a painting that my stupid assistant left. It was a painting of a black-haired boy with crimson eyes, looking bored and at the edge of the painting which clearly says: I love you, Natsume from T. M.

T. M. is for Taniyama Mai, right?

I could feel my rage, rising every minute as I look at those words. Mai loves someone else? But didn't she say that she loves me?

"But didn't you reject her, Noll? So why are affected if she had move on?" an all too familiar voice asked in my head.

"Shut up, Gene. And no, I didn't reject her. I just told her she loves you not me. And no again, I am not affected if she had move on," I answered him plainly and emotionlessly in my mind.

"Oh but my dear brother, what you said was a rejection in every aspect. And not affected? Then, why are you boiling with envy now?"

"Shut up."

"Ah but how can I shut up when my idiotic brother finally found his match?"

"Gene, there is no match so can you just leave me alone?"

"Ah I can't do that."

"And why not?"

"Because you still haven't told me what I want to hear."

"If I say it, will you leave?"

He smirked victoriously and nodded. Okay, here goes nothing.

"I love Taniyama Mai. Happy now?"

His smirk widens and he disappeared, leaving me to look at Mai's painting. I wanted to pouch it but that was too childish so I pick the most mature option I'll throw it away.

I left my office and looked for a trash can but before I could find one, Mai came, looking like she had run to get here. She looked around for something and then stopped, stared at the painting and leap with joy.

"I finally found it!" Her happy voice pained me. So it really was hers. I felt both angry and sadness came to me, angry that someone else stole Mai's heart and sadness that she could never return my feelings. Yes, I love her ever since I met her but I didn't want to confuse and hurt her with my feelings.

"Mikan won't kill me!" she continued. Wait, who's Mikan?

"Mikan?" I asked emotionlessly.

"The owner of the painting," she answered, taking the painting from my hand.

WTH? I made a mistake but that's impossible.

"But what about the initial clearly it says T. M. for Taniyama Mai?" I asked seriously trying to act normally.

Mai looked at me in disbelief and answered, "Naru, my names not the only one with that initial, you know, right?"

I stayed quiet, looking down. I swear I could feel myself turning red from embarrassment which is so not me. And I swear Gene was definitely laughing so hard that he was rolling on the ground.

Mai just waited for my answer patiently but had to leave as soon as she saw the time. I sighed in relief. Thank you, digital clock.

The End…
