Just a random little one-shot that popped into my head. Update 1/25/2012 This story will now have a companion multi-chapter fic, coming soon :) It will be called Dearest Ferret
Disclaimer: I do not own anything related to Harry Potter.
Sybill Trelawney was not known for her accurate predictions. The times she was correct often had something to do with Lord Voldemort and/or Harry Potter and had to be kept secret. She never doubted her abilities though and there was one in particular that she thought of often, especially after meeting Draco Malfoy.
The Dragon and the Traveler
Enemies in youth
Will become Lovers in Time
Kept apart by War
Peace will see their Lives become Intertwined
As soon as she meet the adolescent Malfoy she knew that he was the dragon in the prophecy, the traveler on the other hand was much harder to pinpoint. Just before Umbridge took over the school the seer was looking through an etymology book. So few people realized the power of names and their influence on one's future and Trelawney had decided to look at the names of the Golden Trio to see if she could find anything.
Harry was a Germanic name meaning "home ruler," Ronald was Norse or English meaning "Ruler with counsel" that could mean something, and Hermione was Greek meaning "Travel."
As soon as she read this the prophecy once again popped just as it did when she met Draco. There was no doubt that these two were destined to be together but how? Trelawney tried to distance herself from the school's social life and drama but everyone knew of the animosity between the two teens. Then again the prophecy did declare they would be enemies in youth.
The boy was nasty towards all muggleborns but now that she thought about it he went a little overboard, even for a Malfoy, when Hermione was concerned. Draco made sure everyone knew of his feelings towards Potter's friend. But perhaps he was overcompensating? Maybe just maybe he already felt something warmer towards the bright but closed minded witch? Maybe all of this was an act for his father or even for himself?
When she began to think about it she was reminded of a little boy pulling on a girl's pigtails just to get her attention. Yes indeed the relationship between Malfoy and Granger seemed to be a grown –up much more hurtful version of pulling pigtails.
Over the next few years she watched them as much as she could but could see nothing new develop between them. At times Trelawney began to doubt the prophecy or at least the individuals until after Voldemort was vanquished. Everyone came back to repeat their years and the two teens became Head Boy and Girl.
While everyone else worried over having the two in the same living quarters but Trelawney was eager to see the foretold events unfold. The two fought like before but their arguments were no longer cruel and at times were even playful. Sure enough cooperation developed and then a friendship bloomed.
It was the spring of their last year and Trelawney decided to eat in the Great Hall, a rare event but necessary to fight off extreme loneliness. As the two Heads exchanged small smiles when they thought no one was looking Sybill Trelawney knew for a fact that her prophecy would indeed come to pass.
AN: I got these name definitions from the babynamesworld website, and yes I know these names may have different definitions but these were the ones from this site.
This isn't my best work but I would like some reviews anyway. As with all my stories if you are going to criticize, be constructive.
