Author's Note: This is a little something that came to me when I watched the RENT movie yet again. When Mimi's brushes Roger's cheek during Finale B, she has a gold band on her ring finger. This got me thinking; therefore, I decided to write this. Please read and review, even if you hate it. I would really appreciate it.

"And before this song dies, I should tell you…I should tell you…I have always loved you…you can see it in my eyes", Roger sang as he saw Mimi Marquez, the love of his life, clutched onto him on the brink of death.

She then let go and the light faded out of those eyes he loved so much. As she fell, her eyes shut and the life gone from her body, he pulled her into his warm embrace, kissing her hair and yelling out her name one more time in pure desperation. She had to wake up. This couldn't be real. She couldn't be dead. He loved her too much. This couldn't be his last moment with her. It just couldn't. He's been planning to propose since he had gotten back from Santa Fe. He had the best ring he could afford, a tiny gold band, tucked into the pocket of his leather jacket for when he saw her again. He was going to play 'Your Eyes', tell her how much he loved her, and propose, but that was all gone now. She was dead. That moment was truly the last.

Roger felt tears sting his eyes as he pressed his lips to her cheek one final time and laid her down on the icy metal table before him. He continued to cry as he looked around the room at his friends who looked just as saddened as he was. He continued to clutch her as the tears fell from his eyes, not wanting to let go. Suddenly, after several moments of silence and pain, Mimi's small delicate fingers moved and Roger shook his head in disbelief.

"Mimi", he murmured in disbelief, holding her once more.

She coughed and sat up; all the while, Roger felt his heart stop. He reached and held onto her arm, needing to believe that this was real. That she was really and truly here with him. Finally she spoke.

"I was heading towards this warm white light, and, I swear, Angel was there, and she looked good," Mimi choked, causing Mark, Maureen, Joanne, and Collins to chuckle, "And she said, turn around girlfriend, and listen to that boy's song".

Roger chuckled, reaching out and brushing his girlfriend's cheek. He could not believe this was real. She was okay. She was here with him. It was really and truly real. He gasped as he touched her icy hand.

"You're drenched", he gasped, the two pulling apart as Maureen felt Mimi's forehead. In the meantime, Roger reached into his leather jacket, pulling out the gold band and slipping it into his palm, and entwined his hand with Mimi's, pushing the ring onto her finger.

"Her fever's breaking", Maureen smiled.

"There is not future. There is no past", Mark contemplated.

In the mean time, Mimi nodded to him and he felt a wave of relief and joy wash over him.

"Thank God this moment's not the last", Roger grinned, gripping his fiancé's hand.

"There's only us, there's only this. Forget regret, or life is yours to miss", the group agreed.

Mimi brushed her hand against Roger's cheek, making sure the other never let go of his palm. Little did they know, they were both thinking the same thing.

"Thank you, Angel".
