It was a wonderful summer night. Lily and Marlene were sitting beside the lake looking up at the night sky. James was dogging Lily, which was very unhelpful. "Hey, Evans. Just go out with me, ok? It won't kill you to, right?" He kept saying. Lily was so annoyed that she threw a stick at his face and stomped back to the Gryffindor common room.
While Lily was reading Transfiguration Today by the common room fire, she heard singing and opened the common room door.
"You're beautiful... Just so beautiful..."
Lily leaned across the portrait hole to see James with a guitar, such a surprise to her, Potter had just written her a song and was singing it. She couldn't help but give a wide smile, and James noticed once again that she smiled from her eyes and her cheeks. After he finished singing, Lily said slowly, "Yes, I will go out with you on a date.
"See, Evans, the other boys, would they write a song for you?"
And for the first time, Lily hugged James and kissed him on the cheek for the best surprise that James Potter had ever gave her.
