Author's Note: Hi! I love the Morganville Vampires Series by Rachel Caine a lot so I thought I'd write a small drabble about one of may favorite pairings in it. Shane/Claire is my favorite but this one is an Amelie/Sam drabble.

Discalimer: Yeah, I don't own the series of course!

Amelie sat in her private study alone, enjoying the short moment of quiet she had. Moments like these didn't come around a lot in Morganville for her, especially lately, so she had to savor every precious second she was given.

Sipping her tea, she closed her eyes, feeling a bit at peace.

Yes, how she wished for more quiet time like this but she found out that her wish wouldn't be granted as a loud knock sounded at the door. Sighing, she set down her teacup on the side table next to the chair she was sitting in before saying in a commanding tone, "Come in."

The door opened, emitting a slight creaking noise in the process and revealed Sam standing there.

"And what do I owe this visit?" she asked him. To anyone else, her tone would have sounded as crisp and eloquent as ever but both of them could hear the softness in it that she reserved just for him.

Closing the door behind him so they'd have more privacy, Sam stepped further into the room. "I've been keeping a sharp eye on Oliver like you asked."

"…And?" Amelie asked expectantly.

"He's up to no good as always," Sam replied. "I think he's planning something bad."

"Well, we'll have to do something about that." Amelie said sighing. "Oliver can really be a thorn in my side sometimes." Rising to her feet gracefully, she picked up a book that she'd been reading earlier off of the side table. "Is there anything else?"

"No," Sam answered but he still didn't leave.

He chose to watch Amelie as she paced around the room, looking for the proper shelf for the book. Finding it, she reached up to put it in its proper place only it was an inch to high for her short stature.

"Here," Sam said, walking up to her to offer his help. "I'll get it."

As he took it from her, their fingers brushed slightly and she could feel his presence only inches behind her. Amelie knew that even though she was one of the most badass vampires around, that if she'd had had a heartbeat at that exact moment, it would be beating rapidly.

Sam slid the book back into the shelf, but he didn't back away from her when the deed was done. Instead they stood there for a couple minutes, which was a bit too long in Amelie's opinion even if she did enjoy it. It was something that shouldn't be happening; something that she shouldn't be allowing. Other things had to come first before her love life.

"Sam," she whispered out softly, but it still held the warning behind it.

Understanding, Sam backed off, but not before slightly brushing her hand again with his own.

"I'll be going now," Amelie heard him say and she turned to see him exit back through the door but she'd caught the expression on his face before it had shut behind him.

A smirk had been dancing on his lips.

Walking back to the chair to take her original seat, a small smirk tugged at Amelie's own lips.

Yes. There certainly was never a dull moment in Morganville, Texas.

Good? Bad? Please review and tell me. Also, I might write more drabbles about more pairings from the series so tell me if you think I should.

Now I am off to read the fourth book since I just got it today! Yay!
