A/N: ATTENTION: I've included short info on Kakuzu's backstory in the footnotes if you are unfamiliar with it please wiki or read my footnotes, otherwise you will be confused. this is just a short Drabble I wrote on scrap paper.
Dark (Ness)
Despite what Kakuzu might say Hidan noticed things. And as much as they might hate each other there were just some things they didn't say.
Hidan said nothing the first time the cloak sleeves slipped, throwing the teal prison tattoos into light.* They were all criminals after all, so he didn't think much of it. He didn't say anything about how Kakuzu always went to bed last. Staring into the night until Hidan drifted off. He raised a brow, but said nothing about the doused, but still warm candle by Kakuzu's beside each morning. Said nothing about how his hands clenched into fists when the sun went down or the fire went out.
He still mocked him in his head, called him a pansy, weak, pathetic, a pussy, just never out loud. But, said nothing, because he knew Kakuzu would beat the shit out of him if he tried. And sometimes there were things best left unsaid. Maybe if he had things would be different, maybe they would have stopped annoying each other to see how much they meant to each other, how large a presence they had in each other's lives. But he said nothing to the weak ass heathen pansy about he shook at night and cringed at the dark caves they sealed jinchuuriki in.
Lying in a hole as nothing but a severed head he begins to understand, the fear of the dark and the desperate need to cling to the light. And he shouts and screams and says everything he's never said. But he doesn't make a sound.
Footnotes:
1. The twin teal lines on Kakuzu's wrists resemble markings used in the Edo period to show which prisons criminals belonged too. Kishimoto said that kakuzu was imprisoned for failing to kill the Hokage at the time (for who knows how long) so I'm assuming the tattoos are from his village.
2. According to Kishimoto Hidan is still alive in the hole until he dies of starvation. (Not to be confused with any fillers or headcanons)
