Back in the human world things were not good. The people of Earth exhausted their energy sources and are thrust back into a feudal era-esque time, one without electricity, running water, etc.
An average 14-year old girl named Yumiko Tanaka lives with her father and mother in the Kyoto prefecture. Yumiko grows up in a semi-wealthy family filled with happiness and caring. Though slightly forgetful and ditzy she still manages to get average grades in school, and be co-captain of the gymnastics team at her school. Her parents are unable to conceive due to a pregnancy complication while Mrs. Tanaka was pregnant with Yumiko, and they desperately want more children. One day, Mister and Misses Tanaka visit a local orphanage and decide to adopt a seemingly teenaged boy named Elurren. When they bring Elurren home, Yumiko is ecstatic about having a new brother and the two quickly bond. One night, while Elurren was in the shower, Yumiko decided to snoop around his belongings to see if he had any of his allowance left (she wanted to order a pizza.) While searching she came across a strange looking cerulean book. She curiously opened the book and read the first word aloud "Bre...sher?" A loud bang came from the bathroom. Elurren had been the one that "caused" the bang. He sighed as he realized that Yumiko was his partner. And they were about to begin the quest to become the next King of the Mamodo's...
